I stayed in a tent at campsite 47B which was lovely and has two options for where to set up the tent. One is in shade and the other is not. The picnic table is not shaded. So bring a canopy if it’s hot out. This site also has electricity that we used for powering a fan in our tent. It’s a short walk through light woods to the lake with a couple of places where you can set up a chair or two. Campsite 44B is closer to and has a great view of the lake with a bigger area to set up some chairs on the waters edge. Like others have said, this campground has no service for AT&T. Otherwise, I can find no fault at all with the campsite. The bathroom situation is a different story. The central bathhouse was shut down in mid-April for remodeling/repair until mid-June. While I’m quite certain that that work is long overdue, it should have been done over winter instead of during peak camping season. One bathhouse was open for 90 or so campsites. That’s ridiculous. Also, that bathhouse was in deplorable condition. It desperately needs repair and refreshing. Neither it nor any of the vault toilets (kinda yucky too) are very close to 47B. I brought my own shower/toilet tent and a potty bucket which I ended up using more than I thought I would. I highly recommend bringing one if you are tent camping.

Campground was well kept and well treed! Canoeist kept us informed of weather in the area since cell service was limited. Close to hiking, wildlife, and visitor center. Would definitely go back.

Loved the campground! I didn't give it the highest star because of the restrooms (which are currently being renovated) and the fact that we had campers in our loop that didn't observe quiet time - they were up and loud until 1am. I'd love to come back, once the restrooms are finished. Such a beautiful area to visit!

Very much enjoyed this wildlife refuge it spoiled me. The only issue I have with the campground is they don’t have someone at the gate all the time and it allows ppl to drive through that or not camping there. The last day I was there I was in the no electricity sites which is the first loop and I went out to get cell signal to check my messages and came back and both my chairs were gone. I am so glad I didn’t leave my bike, the weird thing is is they weren’t expensive chairs I got them at Walmart the camp post helped out as much as he could by going by campsites to see if he saw my chairs and looked in the dumpsters just in case I got thrown away out of spite.
I would stay there again definitely . But I would not stay in the non-electrical sites. The electric sites have more people so your stuff won’t get stolen.
