About Tyee Campground - Oregon Dunes

Tyee Campground, located 6 miles south of Florence, is part of the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area. The small campground sits on the northern banks of the Siltcoos River near the Siltcoos Lake outlet. Many campers bring kayaks for paddling up and down the river.  This is a great campground for kids to play and anglers to try their luck from the riverbank.

What Guests Are Saying

Tyee Campground offers a great location for kayaking on the Siltcoos River, with many campsites providing privacy and beautiful views. The campground is generally clean and well-maintained, making it a pleasant spot for outdoor enthusiasts. However, some visitors have reported issues with noise from nearby Highway 101, lack of water access, and unruly neighbors, which may detract from the experience.

We found this campground to be very nice, other than the proximity to the highway. At night, the sound dies down enough, but during the day it's just not a relaxing place to be. Proximity to the river for paddling is the only reason I would want to stay here. I think 13 is the best site all around.

This is not a campground. At best, it's a highway rest stop with a few big trees. It is sooooo loud. I did a walk around the sites, and noticed the few campsites that had campers were filled with alcohol-drinking young adults - many more than should have been at a single site. This alone would not have bothered me, but the highway traffic - it's right there. There is not buffer - despite the campground map that made it look like a buffer. I got back in my car and headed back to Sutton Campground in the hopes they still had space. I didn't care that I had already paid for two nights at Tyee. I would strongly recommend avoided Tyee and trying Alder Dune, Sutton or even Honeyman SP. All are much nicer (and quieter!) better taken care of and seem more secure/safe.

We absolutely love Tyee campground. I love that I can put into the water straight from my campsite and I can go upstream and go to the lake. Or I can go downstream and kayak to the ocean! The traffic noise is a little loud. I just wish the trucks wouldn't use their jake brake all the way around that corner!! After while you don't even pay attention to it. And at night the highways actually very quiet.
Was a little different this year without Glenn being the volunteer host, but there were no issues or problems while we were there. Just missed seeing him and knowing that he was there.
There was no water at all at camp. I believe something to do with the piping. Not very convenient and if we were doing a longer stay it wouldn't have worked. We did have two different campsite people come over and ask about the water and if we had any or why the water wasn't turned on. Also, it seemed that there was a complete fire ban at the campground. I'm pretty sure the state park down the road allowed fires so I'm not sure why the fire band was at this campground. I get it. I'm from Central Oregon and even over here if you were staying in a campground you could have a fire last weekend.
We love to go into town and eat dinner down on the bayfront. Nosh and ICM are our two favorite restaurants. Plus having a root beer from a&w is always good. We went to the military museum and it is well worth it! They have several things that you can do along the lines of scavenger hunt as you're going through. That's a lot of fun. But the displays and information they have in there is excellent.
Kayaking down the river was absolutely wonderful! Otters, egrets, blue heron, raccoons, kingfisher, a deer crossing the river right in front of me! It just doesn't get any better than that!

No water, but we knew that going in.
Right next to US101 so much traffic noise at all hours.
Noisy campers, with no host on duty so was a pretty restless night.
