About Tyee Campground - Umpqua River

Tyee Campground is situated between the Pacific Coast and the city of Roseburg, Oregon. Perched on the banks of the Umpqua River, its location appeals to avid anglers and water sport enthusiasts. The name, Umpqua, is a surviving term of the Native American Umpqua language, and translates to "thundering waters," "satisfied," or "across the waters." For awareness when making reservations: There are two Tyee Campgrounds in Oregon. Although we generally like to stay in campgrounds with hookups and more ammenities, we were pleasantly surprised by Tyee Recreation campground. The sites are layed out very well for optimum privacy and i cannot say enough about how clean and well maintained the campsites and potties were. You can tell the hosts family really cares about the space they live and work in. Bravo! to them!
Unfortunately the access to the river was a challenge. We were on the up-river side access and it appears that the bottom portion of the cement stairs had been shifted significantly by flood waters. This was not a problem for the rest of our group, but I have some mobility issues, so it was difficult. We did see several groups come down and once they saw the condition of the access they chose not to come down to the water. There was another access to the river on the opposite side of the campground and that access was quite steep. Both ways were difficult for me, but not impossible and once I made it down to the river, it was magic! Overall our experience was wonderful and we have already booked 3 of the sites for a large family camp in September. The only other issue that some might have is there is some traffic noise from cars on the access road that our site was located next to, but as it was not a main highway, the noise was not constant.

Spacious campsite. Pit toilets were surprisingly clean and not smelly in the morning. Good access to the river with views from the site.

Clean bathrooms, campsite and grounds, good river access (one of the paths down needs repaired). Very little cell service but we liked that.

Great campgrounds! The on-site staff was very friendly and helpful, helped me by gold carted the firewood bundles I purchased down to my site. The campground is lovely and well maintained. Trails down to the river are maintained by the Boy Scouts and they were there making repairs when I pulled up. Pit toilets were clean and well maintained. Hose spigot super close to my site. Beautiful and peaceful spot. Will visit here again! T-Mobile, no service the entire time.

Very pleasant campground. Pit toilet was clean, my site #7 was level and had a paved driveway. I only overnighted here and it was raining so did not check out the trails. There is a covered picnic table area with a sink that would have been quite helpful had I wanted to cook. My site was right on the river. I saw stairs in the Day Use area that went down to the river. The Umpqua was very high due to a lot of recent rain so I could not determine if there was any beach area. I will definitely come back here. The only down side was no AT&T cell signal.

Tyee is a beautiful campground. Spaces are set apart so you are not right next to your neighborhood. Secluded but with a lot of room to stretch out. We had one of the "tent only" sites and it was perfect. The campground itself is very well maintained with a campground host on-site. It looked to use that each campsite is cleaned between campers. It also has the cleanest vaulted toilets that we have ever seen. It was so refreshing not dreading having to use the toilet! Tyee campground was an amazing find!
