Beautiful area right on the water of the John Day River. Very easy access off the interstate. It’s a very windy area most of the time and LePage offers a little protection. Nice swimming beach and a great place to fish and kayak when it’s not windy. Only downside we saw is the bathrooms/showers need a lot of work, pretty gross.

Wonderful Corps of Engineers campground. Reservation on Recreation.gov was easy, campground was extremely clean & well maintained. Friendly host at checkin; sites have nice hard surface driveway; water & electric at site; great view of river. Yes, some highway noise from I-84, but easily overlooked. Stayed only one night as was passing through but could see spending a few nights, probably not much longer as really, the only access to & from is I-84.
GREAT EXPERIENCE!!

The staff were polite, professional and courteous. The pit toilets were clean and did not smell much. The flush toilets and showers appear to need remodeling and some upgrades. The Bass fishing was excellent. As always, be prepared for windy conditions and observant of snakes.
