About Fan Creek Recreation Site

Want to camp? Camping season is generally May-September, with Alder Glen and Elk Bend remaining open through the weekend following General Western Oregon Coast 2nd Season for elk. During months with reduced sunlight, potable water may be turned off. Be prepared to bring your own wash and drinking water. Reserve a site at one of our four campgrounds on recreation.gov or pay when you arrive for non-reserved campsites using the Recreation.gov Mobile App. You must download before you reach the site since there is no cell reception in the drainage.    A place to get away from the hustle and bustle of the electronic age. Fan Creek is one of the Bureau of Land Management’s middle campgrounds within the Nestucca River Recreation Area. The campground sits along the Nestucca River National Back Country Byway and newly designated Nestucca Wild and Scenic River . The Byway takes travelers on a slow, leisurely route that winds through Oregon's Coast Range. The Nestucca River is renowned for fishing opportunities and beauty.

Fan Creek Recreation Site is a lovely getaway with a flowing river and well-maintained facilities. While some sites lack privacy and proximity to others may be an issue, the campground is peaceful and clean, with a helpful camp host. Many visitors enjoyed their experience and plan to return.

Camp host is a very discriminative! worst experience ever!

Never had I ever had a worst camping experience. The host was extremely rude and disrespectful.
We were out enjoying our camping trip like anyone else would. Had music playing and we were eating and just having a good time.
Camp host stops by and tells us at 8:00 pm to turn it down and keep quiet but quiet hours aren’t even until 10pm!! We were respectful and turned down the music where you couldn’t really hear it in the background.
10pm rolls around and we’re just gathered around the picnic table talking and the host comes again, blinding us with his flashlight, to threaten us that he’s going to call the cops, for noise nuisance even though we weren’t being loud. We weren’t partying or being obnoxious, just trying to enjoy the ONE night we were there for with old friends we’ve haven’t seen in a long time. All we were going was talking and catching up.
We were the only campsite that had a group with people of color camping there. We were spoken to in a disrespectful manner when we had first arrived and asked the host where our campsite was located. We didn’t let it bother us as we were just arriving and wanted to enjoy our camping trip.
Turns out, the campsite next to us, who had a confederate flag up, had complained to him about us? They didn’t want any music being played AT ALL. I’m sorry but you’re out camping! Some people are going to bring their music to listen to and enjoy!
Nonetheless, when we had pointed out that they had a FIRE going on, the camp host did ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. He ALLOWED THEM TO HAVE A FIRE PIT with CHARCOAL even with the fire prohibition. Instead he just went over there and spoke to them very very friendly compared to us and didn’t tell them to put out their fire.
It’s obvious that we were treated differently and were discriminated against. I’m sure if we had a fire going he would have immediately called the police on us.
Reporting this to the BLM.

We loved being by the river. Camp site #5 does not allow for much room to park, much less set up a tent. The Camp Host told us the next we that we could have camped on the paved driveway or even across the other side of the driveway. Seems like a strange way to arrange a campsite. Most other sites looked normal. We ended up camping right on the river which was amazing. Apparently we were not supposed to do that.
Otherwise, the othrr people were relaxed and we enjoyed our stay.

Beautiful area on the Nestucca. Helpful info? Site 7 I did not personally like, campfire pit on a 5 ft-ish cliffside without area to sit around. Camp host Jerry very nice and welcoming but unfortunately left and we had no toilet paper in either of the toilets, so make sure you byop.
I hope anyone that camps tries their best to "leave no trace ". So very much garbage at sites ☹️ PACK IT OUT please! I do not need your cardboard box garbage to start a campfire. It is so irritating to be in a majestic outdoor area and then the firepit with some strangers trash they left. It is not helpful.

Very busy and full. Campsites 4, 5, 6 although with direct river access share one driveway. Zero privacy. As other campsites kids used it for access to the river. Could have been cleaner. Host was friendly.
