Candle Creek Campground

I backpacked here from canyon creek and camped alone. The site was large and spacious and well maintained. Boundaries between sites are not well marked but that wasnt an issue just something of note. Personally would have picked sites 3 or 4 if I had known that site 1 had minimal river veiws and access. I do not regret calping here though. Facilities were well maintained and trail access was good. Really solid camping area that I intend to bring friends along to next time.

Very nice campground with large sites, and not nearly as crowded as the other campgrounds on the Metolius. The river and creek are loud -- good if you want to block out neighbor noise, bad if you like to listen to birds. The gravel road to the campground must've been re-graded recently, as it looked perfectly fine for passenger cars and small trailers.

We really appreciated Forest Service employees periodically checking to make sure all campers knew not to have campfires other than using gas camp stoves as it was extreme fire season. The location between the Metolius River and Candle Creek is lovely and makes all sites pleasant. Its relative remoteness is great, sites are roomy, and the ever-present sound of flowing water makes sites feel very private.

Most of the sites have very short pull-ins. Suitable for my 15 foot trail, but not big enough to park my pick-up in front of it. All of the sites are on either the Metolius or Candle Creek.
Notice Board should include reference to Warm Springs Tribal lands just downstream less than 1/4 mile. Hikers should not trespass below Jefferson Creek confluence with Metolius River.

Barriers have been installed to keep vehicles on the road and away from the site (ie picnic table, fire ring). This is very inhospitable to van camping. We didn't even stay - just forfeited our payment

We had site #6. It was a large site on the intersection of the river and creek. It was beautiful and had access to put your feet in the creek to cool off. The river is too rough to access. Quiet campground. Trail begins here going south along the Metolius. beautiful hike.

Quiet, small, secluded campground. Pit toilet was very clean!

I love this campground. Only two things to mention (1) would it be possible to construct a "dog hitch" outside the toilet and (2) I was very unclear before arriving and after arriving on the firewood policy. Thank you!

We attempted to approach this campground from the East. Due to a fire the road was closed. We turned around to attempt to enter the campground from the West. We drove down 7 miles of rutted road and were met with orange cones and a sign blocking the road stating it was impassable. Off in the distance a large plume of smoke was billowing and I believe this fire may have reached the campground. we turned around and sought another site but all of the campgrounds on that road stated "reservation only". At this point we had spent five hours trying to reach the campground. We headed home and I requested a refund. Apparently only a small part of what I paid is refundable which I find very unfair since I would have stayed had I been able to reach the campground. From the reviews this apparently is a great campground but only go if you have an off road vehicle. This was not made clear on the website.

Aside from a rough road to get to the campsite, it is an absolutely gorgeous campground! Great little hike south of the campground with access to the metolius for fishing or swimming but temps are near freezing all year long. Very clean campsite and super quiet campground. We had enough space for 10 tents easily. We plan on returning in the future!
