Lower Bridge Campground

Great small campground along the beautiful Metolius. Toilet is a bit smelly. Lovely trail runs upstream and downstream. Of course excellent fly fishing.

This camp has 12 sites. All were spotless of evidence of previous occupants. Happy to be able to have a campfire near the end of September. We'll continue to return each year.

Beautiful walk from Lower Bridge to the fish hatchery and back through Allen Springs and Pioneer Ford campgrounds. Watching and hearing Dippers, Mergansers playing in the eddies by Lower Bridge #1. Best, most relaxing & peaceful location - for around 25 years.

Its quiet - beautiful location - not a lot of big groups here with kids or heavy drinkers. Mostly those who appreciate this CG's location and the natural area access it provides. No camphost usually at this campsite nor wireless signal.

Because of recent wildfires, the campgrounds were partially empty and people were not showing up for their reservations and staff didn't seem to be able to open up sites according to the rules.
Our 5 days were wonderful, with clear skies and phenomenal star gazing during the Perseid meteor showers. There were no campfires or briquette BBQ's allowed but we were prepared for that.
I have been camping on the Metolius for 60 years since I was 6 yrs old. The beautiful river always calls to me and Lower Bridge campground has become my favorite. There are plenty of hikes, both along the river and up into the forest. Swimming at Scout Lake, Camp Sherman Store, Black Butte, the fish hatchery, and the many tributaries running into the river are spectacular. I no longer fly fish but watching those that do is great fun. I will keep going back with my very old tent for quite some time.....

We went camping the last week in July, first weekend in August during the statewide forest fires and that caused many campsites to be empty. Since this was our first time there, we really enjoyed the peaceful open campground. The river trails were well maintained, the bathrooms were clean, and the roads clear enough for bike rides. Keep biking toward the fish hatchery, it will be worth it. The spaces were clean and spacious. All we had was the water hand pump but it was fine!

The campground host was very helpful, allowing us to move from site number one which really is too small for even a small RV which must park out in the roadway. He put us into number two which is a lovely spot but we never see it listed on the campsite list. We would like to reserve it but do not see a way to do that.

Because of the fires nearby we basically had the campground to ourselves. It was beautiful, the hike by the river was beautiful and our campsite had a beautiful view of the river from every angle. The only downside was when the wind blew a certain way odor from the vault toilets was strong and disgusting. This whole river is catch and release fishing only. No host and not even a ranger came through while we were there to check on things. it was strange with all the fires you would think they would be making their rounds to make sure people aren’t having fires. Very beautiful area and I will be back in the future to explore it more.
