About Crooked Creek Lake

Authorized by the Flood Control Acts of 1936 and 1938, Crooked Creek Lake is one of 16 flood control projects in the Pittsburgh District. An important link in a system of flood control projects, Crooked Creek provides flood protection for the lower Allegheny and Ohio rivers. The construction cost of over $4 million appears small when compared to the giant saving which have resulted. Since its completion in 1940, the project has prevented flood damages estimated to be in excess of $548 million. Crooked creek also stores water and releases it downstream during dry periods to improve water quality and quantity for domestic and industrial use, navigation, recreation, aesthetics and aquatic life.

The campground was quiet, and it and the park were clean and well cared for. The campground gave easy access to the trails. It was nice to see so many people using all the different amenities. Disc golf was very popular with several leagues playing. There were parties at the pavilions, lots of fisherman at the outflow and boats on the lake. Good place for bike riding too. I really enjoyed the extensive pollinator area by the park office, and got some good ideas to take with me. The Outdoor Discovery Center is in walking distance and has a native plant garden for even more ideas and education. There are walking trails there too. All in all a very enjoyable and relaxing weekend.

If you want peace and Tranquility you come to this bar wish they had electric and water on each campsite the park ranger and the Park maintenance guys were very nice and pleasant especially the one who gave me few sticks. They always keep up with the bathrooms but I hate to say that people who were using the bathroom were never clean their mess after themself

The campgrounds are beautiful and well maintained. The park rangers patrol regularly. There is a horse park near the campground that had several during my stay. There were several days of heavy rain which closed the swimming area and boat launch due to high water. I do wish that the campground had electricity so that I could have used my air conditioner all night because of the humidity.

This is a great family friendly place to camp! There is lots of shade over their campsites, bathroom with running water near by and a playground right in the middle!

This was everything we expected and more. There were no showers (but we understood there used to be), bathrooms were clean and were as expected, and though we arrived after hours, we were thrilled to see the local Sheriff who said he regularly patrols the site overnight to ensure safety. It was just us and one other camper (tent) in our area, so it was super peaceful, and of course gorgeous views with an incredible town history. Definitely on our "return" list.

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our night camping there. The campground is beautiful and well taken care of, and the washrooms are very clean. For kids, there is a playground right in front of the campground. I would highly recommend reserving lot #18 or #23, as they have perfect trees for hanging a hammock and offer a great view of the night sky.

So nice and relaxing there. There is water and a dumpstation at the entrance. No electricity but for the price, it's well worth it. Ill be back in a couple weeks and hopefully the lake will have gone down enough, the lower area will be open.
