We had a spot that was accessible to the water with nice shade. That makes all the difference in this camp ground.

Our trip was absolutely horrific. First the park rangers nit pick every single little thing. The lots are not large enough as the grass has grown above the gravel but don’t dare park a tiny section of your wheel in the grass. The lady at the gate is miserable and all of our reservations were messed up.
This takes the cake though, around 10 pm a police officer came flying through the campground to which a few of us yelled slow down, at the time we didn’t know it was an officer but that is besides the point there are kids and families there. It’s supposed to be a safe place. The officer came back and apologized. Fast forward over an hour later he came back with his superior and tried to kick us out for yelling at an officer and he has the right to speed. The superior officer came in with a hot head. Got out of his car with an attitude and a puffed out chest. Did not even care to ask us what happened. And then the younger officer said word for word “if you don’t watch your kids I will hit them” at which point the superior officer took a whole new stance and left us alone. I feel like the park rangers were very much on our side but their hands were tied. I have never experienced anything like this and I have been camping my whole life. It was the worst experience I have ever encountered.

We cross over from Ohio to stay at Shenango Recreation every summer. Out of all of the Army Corps of Engineer campgrounds, this one is the cleanest and best kept. The camp hosts are welcoming, friendly, very helpful and watch out for their campers like family. We even take our pet parrot without issue! This will be our go-to vacation spot as long as we area able to tolerate camping!

Filled up our water tank as we entered the park at one of the water spigots located along the roadway. Later noticed a horrible rotten egg odor coming from the water. When we asked the park hosts, they said that they would not recommend drinking the water from the water taps...we wish we had been told this before filling our tank (maybe they could put up a sign stating that the water is not potable??). Ended up not being able to use our water tank the rest of our trip, until we were able to disinfect it once we got home. Aside from that, it looked like the park had been flooded earlier in the season, and the mosquitoes were horrid. Roads were in bad shape. Overall negative experience for us.
