Susquehannock

We arrived on a Monday not expecting to find waterfront campsites available and we did! This was a last minute mountain biking trip so we hadn’t made reservations in advance. It was extremely hot and I think many school age kids are starting sports camps so that may be the reason it wasn’t as full as we expected. Only negative was the bathroom reaked and occasionally the smell came wafting down to our campsite.

great views. variety of campsites is great. secluded. quiet. bathrooms are kinda rough.

I love everything about this site!!! Rangers are the best! Cheers to you for a job well done.
Just one suggestion: that the torlets have a sign that notes the doors should remain closed and the lids closed to ensure less smell and less bugs. Other than that, you get a 10! Keep up the great work.

Stayed at sites Susquehanna 61 and 62. The site location was great being so close to the lake and not too far away from the bathroom. A few downsides were the lack of trees to provide shade, the steep drop from the parking area to the sites and lack of steps (slipped and fell a few times walking down) and the lack of space between the actual sites. There are 4 sites in this small stretch of camp sites and they are really close together. Could be better off with just 3 sites here.

Between showing up to dog waste all over the site on the platform & in the grass, the fireworks being set off, & the generators it is just not the same place I started coming to over 23 years ago. How you can say primitive camping & have people show up in huge campers with generators is mind boggling.

There's very little monitoring or control over people squatting on camp sites that they believe are unoccupied. This includes both registered campers from sites elsewhere in the camp ground and random people who boat or jet-ski up to the shore of the camp ground. We've seen this get worse over the past few years and people will bring coolers, grills, canopies, hammocks and start camp fires for hours at a time on sites that they have not reserved because they like the location. It puts the real registered campers next to them in an unfortunate position because these people can sometimes be loud, rude and just inconsiderate leaving trash or belongings behind, but no one wants to spend their vacation calling rangers to report other peoples' bad behavior. It's frustrating and sad that this is what we unfortunately expect now.

I’ve camped at this campground several times over the last few years as their proximity to the MTB trails is perfect. I’ve always had a great experience; however, I recently encountered a situation where a campsite next to me was extremely over crowded (well over a dozen people staying at one site) and made the stay a bit uncomfortable.

Specifically, camp sites #61 and #62 are a little close to one another without occupants. Add an oversized group and the camping situation is impractical. We were camping at #62 and the very large party at #61 had surrounded our campsite and left for little to no privacy. My recommendation is to reconsider the max amount of occupants at these smaller sites and enforce the set standard. Thanks!

Site 61 is way to close to neighbors and very steep hill to carry everything up and down!!

Would be nice if they eliminated generators. The generators are for RV's that are closed up with their air or whatever else is so important at a primitive campground while tenters have to sit & listen to them all night. There are hundreds of campgrounds that they can plug in but nope, they want to take one of the last primitive non electric campgrounds with their campers that cost tens of thousands of dollars to ruin others around them. Even with the 10 pm quiet hr rule that most disregard, it is ridiculous that while sitting around my site we have to yell to hear each other. Been coming here over 20 years & it just gets worse & worse. Also wish they would of left the bathrooms gender assigned, I never used to have to wipe the urine off the toilet when it was used by only females.

We have been coming here for a decade and have camped our way around the waterfront, from the cliffside to the point. This was our last visit to Susquehannock and we have canceled our camping plans there in August.

As usual, we paid extra for waterfront sites (61/62) with expectations suited for our visit (shady trees, disabled access, privacy). The sites have been completely renovated, with level tables, better water access, and new fire rings. The sites are on top of each other, they took out a lot of trees, and the rings for 62 and 63 are very close together.

There was an extended family w/kids and a dog on our site when we arrived. They moved their brood to the adjacent vacant sites (64/65) and continued to swim and play at 61/62. Then a fam of 4 cut through right next to our camp to the lake. Regrettably, I initiated words. The man told me to read the rules. He was right, there is waterfront access for all now per the rules. It seems we live in a world now where some people just cut through other peoples' campsites. The larger family returned the second night to swim in front us and disregarded any privacy we hoped for on vacation.

The rules state that anyone has the right to waterfront access. I think a public waterfront area is warranted for all the campers. But I don't agree with the delivery of the changes. No privacy, no trees as a buffer, and anyone from the campground can drive their 2 cars full of family (then one car back to shuttle a third set of ppl) to hang out in, and boaters from interior sites revving engines on what I had hoped and expected was a nice quiet getaway.

We haven't been able to get a site in Susquehannock since the pandemic — one reason I was unaware of the changes to the site. But I missed any messaging they might have released regarding changes to the sites and the rules. It now feels like they put in more sites with the promise of water access while removing any semblance of the way it was, the privacy and the ambiance.
