The Outflow was closed. That should've been conveyed on the website. The hosts were very lovely people. The restroom/showers were not good but I've seen worse. Could definitely use some tlc.

Watch for low power lines along Outflow Road driving into Outflow campground, also the road gettings really rough with potholes. visit the small towns in the area. Cell was spotty at times being down in the valley.

We were there for 1 1/2 weeks and the grass was very high and never cut. The host was very unfriendly.

Campground was very quiet. Restroom was close to our campsite and was clean. We can’t wait to go back. Our site was very well shaded in the daytime. Site was also a very nice size.

The primitive tent sites in the Peter's Run area of the Outflow Campground are known habitats for Synchronous Firefly mating displays during the month of June and early July. If you refrain from using bright lights and lanterns, and keep your campfires low and purposeful, you would be amazed at the firefly displays that occur in these sites after 10 pm on warm nights. Let your eyes adjust to the darkness naturally, so you can keep a look out on the ground for glowing larvae, pupae and females. Better yet, keep the lights off year-round, and you will encourage and benefit other nocturnal creatures. Lights OUT For Lightning Bugs! The park is awesome and host was very friendly. The road in could use some work. This particular park would benefit if the camping rates were lower during the week to entice people to camp during the week. The little town of tionesta could benefit also if more people camped during the week.

We have been tent camping at the Outflow Rec Area since 2021. It is our home away from home and we absolutely love going there. Although the last few years they have added RV spots and while thats "nice" it has definitely lead to less tent campers and less maintenance being done on the restrooms (only 2 of the 4 have been working the last few years). The upper campsites could also really use releveled and some new drainage we like being up away from everyone but no matter what we end up flooded if it rains.
Even with those issues at the end of the day its still one of our favorite places to be on this earth and is an awesome place to tent camp with littles if you stay on the lower loop where the park is.

From Pittsburgh take I-79 North. Merge onto I-80 East exit 116a toward Clarion for 9.8 miles. Take the PA-8 exits 29 toward Barkeyville. Turn Left onto Pa-8/State Route 8 for 16.4 miles. Turn right on US-62 and follow US-62 for 34 miles. Turn right onto 36 South in to Tionesta. Turn right at the stop sign and continue 36 south for 2.0 miles and South Elm Street 1.5 miles into the Outflow Recreation Area.
From Warren travel US-62 South for 30 miles take left onto South Elm Street 1.5 miles into the Outflow Recreation Area.
Outflow Recreation Area is accessible via I-79 and I-80, with connections to PA-8 and US-62 providing routes into Tionesta.

General
- If you are arriving without a campground reservation, you must pay for camping before you park.
- Visit the Tionesta Recreation Area booth, Recreation.gov or call 1-877-444-6777 to determine if campsites are open and to pay for open sites. Preferred method of payments at the Tionesta Recreation Area booth will be credit/debit card or check.
- If you have reserved a campsite and wish to change campsites upon arrival, you must call Recreation.gov at 1-877-444-6777.

- Parking on the grass is prohibited.
- Two vehicles maximum per campsite.
- No alcoholic beverages.
- There is a limit of 1 wheeled camper and 1 tent per campsite, or 2 tents per campsite.
- Don't Move Firewood: Don't Move Firewood: Protect your forests from tree-killing pests by buying your firewood locally and burning it on-site. Visit Dontmovefirewood.org for further information.
- Pennsylvania state law requires children under 13 to wear a personal flotation device; all people on boats less than 16 feet in length and all canoes and kayaks must also wear a PFD Alcoholic beverages are prohibited If you have any questions about the rules and regulations for the Tionesta Recreation Area please call the Ranger Station, 814-755-3512
- Camping at one or more campsites at any one water resource project for a period longer than 14 days during any 30-consecutive-day period is prohibited without the written permission of the District Commander.
