About Outflow Recreation Area (PA)

Half of Forest County, where Tionesta Lake is located, is preserved as public lands. The region is known as one of Pennsylvania's best big game regions and is home to a remarkable variety of wildlife. Campers come to the Outflow Recreation Area Campground to enjoy the forested area along Tionesta Creek. The area is ideal for fishing, hunting as well as scenic hiking. Tionesta is a culturally rich region with a long history. The Seneca Indian tribe named this area "where the water separates the land." Nearly a century ago, narrow gauge railways dotted the surrounding countryside, hauling out virgin timber from the hillsides.

Outflow Recreation Area offers a peaceful and well-maintained camping experience, with clean campsites and friendly staff. We love COE campgrounds because they are always all maintained. Wellllllll, this one is not. Not easily marked to find. Best way to get there is almost into town. If you take first exit after the COE HQ, you go on a tiny bridge and make a very very hard right turn. There are 5 RV sites. Easy pull through, slightly unlevel. Bathrooms are 3 out of 10. 2 bathrooms with showers. One shower did not work, dirty, old and rundown. This is by far the worse COE campgrounds we have been to and will avoid in the future.

Camp ground is very nice, bathrooms are decently kept. Camp hosts are very rude, and did negatively impact our stay. We extended our stay a night on Recreation.gov , and the female camp host was very confrontational about it, as if we were lying.

Always nice here, only issue is the short section of the entrance road that is full of potholes. We’ll be back, great place to stay.

Love the camp ground because we tent camp. Please, please fix the fans in the family style bathrooms. It's way too humid and hot in the bathrooms because exhaust fans don't work. Hopefully the showers will be fixed soon as only half the showers worked (2 out of 4 worked). Thanks.

I was camped in site 11 Outflow, it was my first time there. I feel the campground host was rude, not a pleasant person at all. Adults were camped up on the hill with their children, if the kids were playing and making some noise he went up and complained. To me they were kids about 5 to 9 years old. They were camping and kids will make noise. They were not extremely loud at all. The campground host to me is not a person that should be a campground. He was not a people person.

The campground was one of the best. The ranger station was not attended too and we never got to check in. Campers camping there showed us where our camp site was. We were very happy with that site. Would return but need better management/hosts.
