The campground and campground hosts were fantastic. All the facilities were well taken care of and the hosts were kind and provided great information to us. Highly recommend this campground.

Camp hosts were fantastic, very clean facilities. They do have wood on hand vs. going to town and buying it. Very, very helpful people.

We stayed here for two nights. The hosts were very nice and accommodating, they allowed us to switch sites so we could be closer to our friends who were also camping. My only complaint had nothing to do with the actual camping, just that the cost was outrageous. $30 per night for a piece of dirt to park on (no hookups of course) was expensive enough but then they add on an “extra vehicle fee” of $5 PER NIGHT. I can understand a few for excess vehicles, but we only had 2 and they fit perfectly fine within our site. Also a dog fee of $2 per night. This new hospitality company they have running things is a big ol money grab and it’s annoying, especially for locals.

The campground was nice and clean. The bathrooms were well maintain. You do have to drive to the water but it was not far from the campsites.

Absolutely beautiful!! My Loop was very quiet. Site was good size, a nice little view of the lake. Zero cell coverage but, I figured that beforehand.

Utortunately we were rained out by a very persistant rain storm which may have worked out for the best since the site (#3) didn’t offer a level surface to pitch our tent in the evet we could have stayed. We lost our money, but we did end up visiting Hill City for the afternoon which was nice, then we drove back home to Lead.

We had a wonderful time camping at Whitetail! Rhonda and Greg, the camp hosts, were so welcoming and helpful! Very clean and quiet site (and Rhonda spoiled my dog, very dog friendly!).The lake was gorgeous and we had fun hiking part of the loop trail one day.

From Hill City, take Deerfield Rd. (County Rt. 308/Forest Rt. 17) west for 15.1 miles to Whitetail Campground sign (Forest Rt.421). Turn right onto Rt. 421 and travel 0.9 miles to the campground.
The nearest major road is US Highway 16, located approximately 17 miles east of the campground.
Elevation: 1829 feet

General
- These campsites are non-electric sites. Generators may run only.
- Non-reservable sites may be available on a first come, first served basis
- Prevent the spread of invasive species by inspecting and cleaning packs, equipment, and tires before using lake or trails
- A pet fee of $2 per pet per night is required upon check-in
- No refunds for inclement weather

- Don't Move Firewood: Prevent the spread of tree-killing organisms by obtaining firewood at or near your destination and burning it on-site. For more information visit dontmovefirewood.org.
- The Senior and Access discounts are only honored for the site that hoses the card holder. If multiple sites are reserved on one card, the rest of the camping fee will be collected upon arrival unless another card holder occupies the site.
- During walk up season, fewer sites may be available.
