Dakota Sunsets

We stayed at Dakota Sunset RV Park in Salem, South Dakota for a few weeks and had a wonderful experience. If you’re looking for a peaceful campground that’s a little off the beaten path but still conveniently located, this is a great option.

The park is close enough to the highway for easy access while still being quiet and relaxing. The sites are a decent size, and they offer both back-in and pull-through options. The amenities were great for our family, including two playgrounds, a dog run, laundry facilities, and clean restrooms and showers.

One thing we really appreciated was how well maintained the property was. The staff was constantly out mowing the grass and taking care of the grounds, which made the campground feel welcoming and cared for.

Check-in is entirely done online, making arrival simple and hassle-free. The sunsets here are absolutely stunning and ended up being one of our favorite parts of our stay.

The location is also convenient—Mitchell is just a short drive away for groceries, restaurants, and other shopping, and Sioux Falls is close enough for a day trip. There’s even a Dollar General right down the road for any quick essentials you may need.

Overall, Dakota Sunset RV Park was a peaceful, clean, and convenient place to stay, and we would absolutely stay here again.

We picked this campground based on the location and great reviews. It did not disappoint! We were passing through on the 90 but we would absolutely come back and stay a few days. People mentioned how great Matt was and that's a fact. Great guy. Beautiful campground, well maintained, great signage, easy and clear online booking. We ventured into Canistota for dinner. Quiet town with all thats you need.

So grateful for the Camp Host! We came in nearly around midnight, he let us stay after experiencing an emergency with our trailer and even allowing us to stay past check out time the next day for repairs. He was so gracious and kindly understanding 🙏. It's a real shame we can't experience more than we can as we're a one night stay. Looks gorgeous with a playground, if we ever are in the area again we definitely will be staying here for certain.

We were on a road trip out west, and needed a campsite just for the night. It's online booking only, and was easy to do from the road. The campground is close enough to I-90 to be convenient, but far enough so the traffic noise wasn't bad at all. When we arrived we were greeted promptly by the onsite host, Matt. He was very friendly and personable, had a great sense of humor, and was extremely helpful. His hospitable attitude made us feel welcome. The bathrooms and showers were clean, and I appreciated how each shower was private. The grounds were well maintained, sites were level. Would definitely stay there again if we're ever in the area.

Lovely place with lovely people. We were greeted by Matthew and his lovely wife Ashley. They were so kind and helpful. The place is very well-kept and it's near a very charming town, Salem. The flies were plentiful when we stayed and Matthew was kind enough to put some fly paper on ou the adjoining pedestal which was great. You won't regret staying here.
