What Guests Are Saying
Chilhowee Campground is praised for its beautiful natural setting, well-maintained facilities, and friendly camp hosts, making it a favorite for repeat visitors. The campground features clean bathrooms, spacious sites, and a lovely lake for swimming, along with access to hiking trails, including the popular Benton Falls. While the access road is narrow and winding, and some areas may appear dated, the overall experience is highly recommended for those seeking a peaceful camping getaway.

This was our first trip on our new Camper. Our camp site was B-24, We had electric hook up, no water hook up but were able to run a short hose from a water spigot very nearby and fill our fresh water tank. Spots at this camp are spacious and at a reasonable distance from all neighbors. There were several nice trails and points of interest my dog and i enjoyed. The camp area was nice and all campers were respectful of other's space. Definitely will return to this camp. The park hosts were nice and checked on us or rounded frequently on the campground.

Hosts were great. Very attentive and available. Camp sites nicely spaced and beautiful for our end of the season trip the last weekend of October. Nice hiking trails right from the campground.
Negatives: inadequate signage and difficult access to the dump station.
From the highway there was little warning of the entrance to the park. We had to drive by it and turn around because RV's don't slow down quickly. Second, the nice signs at the entrance to the park say turn right to the Benton Falls trailhead but no mention of the campground. No sign in the other (straight) direction. Reasoning that surely if turning right would take us to the campground the sign would say that so instead we went straight. We found ourselves heading up a dirt round too narrow to turn around on when we, fortunately, flagged down some people in trucks servicing communications equipment who told us we were in the wrong direction. We had to back up on a narrow uneven road with steep drop off on one side for probably 1/2 mile with the travel trailer to get back to the entrance sign then head towards the trailhead which evidently also happened to include the campgrounds. Had we arrived after dark or near darkness this could have ended very badly. Re dump station, we stayed in loop B with a travel trailer, ours is 23'. We learned from the hosts that we need to drive out of the park and circle around the entrance to the sign then go back into the campground to go directly to the dump station located in a different section of the camp. Otherwise, coming out of loop B one is faced with a hair pin turn to get to the dump station . It would help to have some warning about this in the handout provided and on the web site. If it was on the web site I missed it. Lastly, the restrooms for Loop B need an upgrade. Though pretty clean there is a lot old rust and the shower has a single on off timer button with no control of water temperature. We opted for the shower in our trailer.

Clean campground and restrooms, good spacing between sites, and fantastic hosts.
We stayed in loop A, site 12 (15 amp site). There was plenty of room for our 33β 5th wheel. Although there is not a dedicated water spigot for each site. We had one close enough the we were able to connect with 50β of hose and refill our fresh water tank. We stayed the week of 10/25. The campgrounds were quiet and everyone was friendly. Our favorite activity was catching the sunset from one of the lookouts on Oswald road. The drive to the Shell station or Dollar General is 15-20 minutes. The longest segment of the drive to the store is from the campground to hwy 64.
There is a lot to do in the area from hiking the trails to fishing in lake Ocoee. The hike to to Benton Falls is an easy 1.5 mile hike and well worth the trek.
We were initially concerned about traversing the curvy, Oswald rd, leading to the campground. However, the road is well maintained and wide enough that we had no issues at all.
We have identified this campground as one of our favorites. We will definitely return.
