What Guests Are Saying
Chilhowee Campground is praised for its beautiful natural setting, well-maintained facilities, and friendly camp hosts, making it a favorite for repeat visitors. The campground features clean bathrooms, spacious sites, and a lovely lake for swimming, along with access to hiking trails, including the popular Benton Falls. While the access road is narrow and winding, and some areas may appear dated, the overall experience is highly recommended for those seeking a peaceful camping getaway.

Love the setting. Trails are great. Showers were either freezing or literally, scalding. Wish they could have got it right. Were there 9 days.

Our favorite place to go for a mini family vacation! Plenty of things to do (good trails to hike, beautiful waterfall, fishing in the lake, etc) while still feeling remote and disconnected from the world. Bathrooms are always clean. We can't wait to go back next fall!

We were able to reserve our favorite spot for our annual all-girls camping trip. Would like to see the bathrooms cleared of the cobwebs more often than once a year. The lake area is in serious need of raking and sand replacement.
It would also be good to have a small camp store where you can buy ice, wood, batteries, propane, sunblock, water and any other essentials as well as some simple food items. The profits can go toward the upkeep of the recreation area.

Chilhowee has always been a go to stop for us when it comes to Bike Packing. The Chilhowee and Cherokee National Forest trail system that is connected via Clemmer trail is a Southeast classic and there is easily 100+ miles of single/double track trails and forest roads with plenty of elevation and scenic turn offs to challenge any hiker or cyclist. We enjoy Chilhowee's campground area due to it's ease of access, showers, readily available spots even in peak season and access to other campgrounds for hiking or biking point to point inside the Cherokee National Forest. Only turn-offs are the campgrounds tourist/vacation like atmosphere. Very few nights we have stayed where there wasn't generator noise, car alarms and radios going off in the night no matter what section you end up staying. The campground leans to be more accommodating to weekend visitors who are there for grill outs and playing on the beach which is probably expected. Overall its a great campground to start an adventure, but I would only recommend it as a starting or ending point.

This review is about site 17/18 loop B. It was a great site double site except it only had one picnic table., that made made using it with two families hard, but we were still charged double. Thankfully I had packed a folding table and we were friends. Also while it had two fire pits, only one had a working cooking grate. You kind of get ripped off being charged double for this site. It does have two spots for tents.

Our stay a Chillhowee Campground was great. It is a very scenic area to camp at. Our RV site was large with ample space between other sites. Shower facilities were clean with plenty of hot water and pressure. Camp host were very friendly and helpful. We chose the area to ride our motorcycles. The roads did not disappoint us. There is plenty of water recreation activities near by.
The road up to the campsite is very steep and curvy. Caution should be used and If you're a newbie, I would suggest being there before sundown to set up camp.

Love camping here. Go every year for a family vacation. Have two of the nicest people running this place. Great place to camp. And the kids love to swim and fish.
