Abram's Creek Campground

Campground is in a really nice, picturesque place next to Abrams Creek, however; sites are very close together. No privacy at all.

Abrams Creek is a nice campground tucked out-of-the way from all the busy tourist thoroughfares of the Smoky Mountains. The sites are spaced close to one another, but with only 16 sites in all, and constant sound of the creek bubbling right alongside (sites 1-9 are literally on the bank of the creek), it still feels quiet and peaceful. The entire campground is very well-maintained and has easy access to two trailheads for day hikes (Abrams Falls is a 5.1 mile hike along the creek) or as a starting off point for backcountry camping.

Safe, clean, beautiful campground. Bathroom was a little hard to find in the dark, and a path to it ran within 2 feet of someone's firepit.

First night we got there and someone else was in our reserved camping spot, without cellphone service it was hard to rely on help for this type of thing. Luckily there were other spots that (although clearly said reserved) didn’t have anyone at them yet. I hate being that person to break a rule but it had started getting dark and we drove six hours to get to the site and needed an early start. The next morning the other guy cleared out and we moved to our rightful spot but it’s just not easy to be sure you’re going to get the spot you paid for. Anyway, the campground is beautiful and secluded. You’ll be very close to other campsites but it’s almost a community feel. Nice to really get away from society for a couple nights, and the trails are amazing past the campground!

It was an absolutely lovely time and very quiet which is what I appreciated most of all. I finally was able to stay next to the river and it was wonderful. The hike next to the campground was beautiful and full of wildflowers and one of my favorite campgrounds.

Lovely, peaceful, small campgriund

A very important note: if you plan on using the convenient trailhead located within the campground to get up to Abram’s Creek Falls, you MUST review the route before going. The fork for Copper Rd Trail and Little Bottoms Trail is poorly marked. If you miss it, you’ll do a 15 mile hike instead of 9 mile hike. I wouldn’t say anything if it was just our mistake but we spoke to a group the next day that had the exact same thing happen to them. The Little Bottoms Trail is much less trafficked than the alternative trail from Cade’s Cove to Abrams Falls which we liked. Definitely recommend just keep the route in mind!

The campground is a great spot on the west side of GSMNP. I highly recommend reserving a spot early so you can get one of the sites located directly on the creek. The restrooms were very adequate and relatively clean BUT no showers. The spigot water was very clean and cool. The last .5-1 mile of the drive is unimproved road and you won’t have service for the last 15-20 mins of the drive so be familiar with the area before getting there.

The fishing is okay at the campground and better just upstream of it. From what I understand, there are rainbow trout around in the cooler months and as it gets warmer, they start to move upstream toward the Falls and Smallmouth bass start to move in around the campground from downstream.
