Great fun for family on 4th of July! Even though it rained we had plenty of room and a very good set up. We had made reservations at least 6 month ago. We were not on time and there were several people there when we arrived but we explained that we had reserved the shelter and had no problem. There is a reserved sign but it is quite small and a more noticeable sign with our name on it would have been helpful. The bathrooms were convenient but had a lot of traffic and got very messy towards the end of the day especially with the rain and muddy conditions. Parking in the morning was very limited but it all worked out. It’s a great place just be sure to reserve early!

Wonderful setting for picnic in GSMNP. Pavilion has plenty of parking. Also has restroom nearby. Our group hiked prior to picnic and saw lots of blooming mountain laurel. Got to watch workers restore the Walker Sisters cabin and tour the Greenbrier school as part of the hike.

The pavilion at Metcalf Bottoms was a very pleasant place to celebrate our 50th anniversary. We had a nice meal, people visited and played in the river.

Had a great picnic at the Metcalf Bottoms Picnic area. Some participants hiked nearby trails before the picnic (Little Greenbrier School and Walker Sister's cabin are must see and easy hikes). We could hear and see the stream. Bathroom and trash dumpster were close by. Plenty of parking was available.

Metcalf Bottoms is a beautiful picnic area which borders a lovey stream. It is so pleasant to hear the water flowing by. There are several clean restrooms throughout the picnic area. There are fairly easy hikes to an old schoolhouse and the Walker Sisters’ Cabin which kids enjoy.
