Indian Boundary Campground is located in a beautiful wooded setting and most sites are large and shaded. However, there are a few problems worth noting:
1. The campsite symbols and site numbers on the Recreation.gov map don't line up with the roads on the map, making it difficult to identify the site number for a particular site even if you've seen it in person.
2. The length limit of every site is listed as 36' even though many of the sites are much longer. Per both the campground host and the person I spoke with at the Forest Service office, the 36' limit is not enforce unless exceeding the limit leads to damage to the site (including the timbers outlining the gravel pads).
3. Although most sites are limited to 30 amps, some sites have 50 amps. However, the web sites doesn't identify which sites have 50 amps. They're all described as "Standard Electric."
4. Many of the sites with 50 amps have significant slopes away from or toward the road. Because of the problem noted in Item 1, it's difficult to know whether backing into a particular site will result in the back wheels of a Class A motorhome being lifted off the ground in order to level the coach. On
5. Although the sites are outlined by timbers and filled with gravel, my jacks sank well below the surface on my first attempt at leveling. I used two wooden jack pads (cut from 2x12's) under each jack on the second attempt and they worked, but the bottom pad was still pushed into the muddy gravel. Of course, this is just my experience on one site. It may not be a more general problem.
6. Many of the sites are angled sharply away from the relatively narrow roads in the campground, making it difficult to maneuver a longer coach into the site without driving well off the road and/or pad boundaries. That may be why they have a 36' length limit, but it would make more sense to go out and describe each site a little more accurately rather than make them "one size fits all."
I'll be back next month.

We LOVE Indian Boundary. It is one of the first places we went camping over 20 years ago and we have such fond memories. Really enjoy walking the trail (3.1 miles) around the Indian Boundary Lake. The camp store has everything just in case you forgot something...including ice and fire wood. My kids enjoyed fishing and we also took our dog. Campsites are great and far enough from your neighbors but close enough to bathrooms. Very shaded and perfect for hammocks.
This is our favorite campground!

Indian Boundary is a great (not so much anymore) secret of Monroe County TN. I've been camping there my entire life. We sometimes go farther away to find new adventures, but the Boundary is our favorite. It is great for families and kids.

Beautiful campground that is well-maintained. The bath houses are conveniently located. The lake sites are gorgeous with ample shade, and the beach wonderful and well manicured. Regret that there was no water on site and the dump station was so far away.
