About Rio Grande Village (Big Bend, TX)

The Rio Grande Village Campground sits near the banks of the Rio Grande, the International Boundary between the United States and Mexico. It is one of the most popular campgrounds in Big Bend National Park, especially for those traveling in large recreational vehicles. The sunsets are beautiful, great hikes, good place for some light biking or extensive biking on the main road, close to the hot springs, and a must-do activity is going to Boquillas, Mexico for lunch and a little shopping. It's also a great idea to take a walk around the campground in the dark. The skies are amazing.
The camp store has great beer, a nice assortment of t-shirts, ice cream for a hot day and other refrigerated or shelved food items. The Big Bend roasters coffee is very good.

We stayed in the Village and it was decent. Space between neighbors was pretty good. Liked the covered picnic table, width of our site and bear/javelina box. Hosts stopped by within minutes of our arrival and were very friendly and helpful. Loved the proximity of the store, visitor center and hot springs! Favorites were Ross Maxwell Scenic Drive and Santa Elena Hike.

I wish Big Bend had more camping options. The Village is so far away from many of the sites. Showers were NOT very clean : (
SO SAD that this is a dark sky park and people had lights on and drove around with headlights shining.

Best of the 3 campgrounds in Big Bend. I would select a non generator site in the future.

It was disconcerting to not be told irrigation was going to happen in our campsite when I made the reservation. It was muddy the day we arrived and we were told a couple of days before we were to leave that they were going to flood the area again. So, we left early.

Also, the showers at the Rio Grande campsite had serious hot water problems. Sometimes they worked, sometimes not. Even when they worked, it took up to a minute for the water to go from frigid to luke warm. When you only get 5 minutes, that's brutal.

The campground NEEDS a WiFi connection!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Impossible to plan trips and mapping.
Roads and sites need repaving, it’s a dusty mess.
Bathrooms adequate, but I have my own motorhome.
Offer hook-ups!!!!!
More landscaping would help keep dust down.

I did love my first time visiting but was so happy to get out of such a dusty and sandy environment

The campsite is clean and during this time of year extremely quiet. It was beautiful and the people were kind. Overall it was an excellent experience
