The administrators appear to be letting all of the big, beautiful, ancient trees die from extreme lack of irrigation. It is a tragic way to treat this beautiful and old national park.
Also, rec.gov does a terrible job of utilizing camping spots, allowing one single to be reserved in any spot so longer term reservations sre nearly impossible.

The beauty of this National Park is amazing. But the infrastructure compared to other national park is not so great. Roads to some of the scenic locations need improvement. Parking areas only have very limited spots and most don't accommodate larger rigs. Many trail heads have almost no parking and have no restroom facilities. Some of the trails we were on need clearer markings to ensure you don't take wrong turns...
We were in the park for 1 week in a small 4x4 truck camper and were able to scout some of the back country campsites, which were amazing. We will definitely come back to stay at those to enjoy the views, total silence and darkness.
This particular campground was large, busy and had some no generator sites. Lots of wildlife. Bobcats, coyote, cows and donkeys going through camp. We also stayed a few nights at Cottonwood which is a NO generator camp ground with less sites. Both campsites were clean and well kept..

We love Big Bend. Starry nights, gorgeous hiking, even had breakfast in Mexico. The Rangers and volunteers are always so friendly and knowledgeable.
We liked site 9, despite being in a generator loop it was generally quiet. This site was just long enough for my 28ft trailer and truck, but I was backed right up to the picnic table roof. It was easy to get level. The covered picnic table was a nice bonus and it is surrounded by bushes, so you get a little privacy. No shade for the trailer but we needed sun for our solar panels.

Our time in Big Bend NP was awesome. The Rio Grande campground was excellent. It’s well staffed with knowledgeable and friendly folks who keep the campground clean, quiet, dark and tidy. We’ll be back even tho the drive is 2000 miles from our home.

We arrived to find the site we had reserved was not large enough for our fifth wheel. Park host was very accommodating and found us another site that was long enough. Only complaint is the lack of cell service and internet. We enjoyed hiking many trails-a couple right from the campground and we drove the Maxwell Scenic Drive and hiked many trails along the way as well as in the Chisos Basin.
