The people managing the camp ground were firewood nazi’s because we didn’t buy the wood they provided. Instead we scavenged our own, and they kept driving by in their cart and making comments. Literally every fifteen minutes. People go to the forest for peace and solitude, and these people made it far from enjoyable. We decided to leave a day early, didn’t feel welcomed.

My family used to go camping here in the 90s when I was young. The campgrounds are exactly how I remembered them, but the fishing is not as good. Besides the fishing, everything is amazing. We arrived with a reserved spot, but when we noticed it was very close to a neighboring spot, we asked to move to a different spot that was open, and the groundskeeper said it was no problem. We enjoyed hanging out at our spot and taking walks around the lake. Note: They discourage bringing your own firewood, so if it’s a cold night, and you need “beefier” logs, be prepared to pay a premium price. $5 got us about 5 scrawny pieces

Despite the cold weather and early Sunday morning rain, I had a fantastic time at Double Lakes. The area was neat and clean and really quiet. Other campers were friendly but not bothersome. The relaxation was just what I needed.

From New Waverly, Texas, go 22 mi east on Highway 150 to FM 2025. Turn and drive south 0.3 mi to the campground.

Policies & Rules
General
- PLEASE DO NOT DISPOSE FLUSHABLE WIPES INTO CAMPGROUND WASTEWATER SYSTEM. THESE PRODUCTS CAUSE SIGNIFICANT BLOCKAGE ISSUES AND ARE NOT COMPATIBLE WITH OUR WASTEWATER TREATMENT SYSTEM.
- Two vehicles included with each standard site fee; Four vehicles included with group site fee; extra vehicles charged $9 per night on-site
- Only two tents and up to eight people are allowed at a single occupancy campsite
- No access for newly arriving campers.
- Fire permitted in fire rings only
- Street Legal Vehicles Only
- No alcohol.
- Day use fee of $7 per vehicle per day; annual pass $30 per vehicle; walk-in or bicycle $1 per person per day; dump station use $5 per use
- Site must be occupied in the first 24 hours of reservations
