About Hanks Creek

Hanks Creek Park has something for everyone, with plenty of water sports on Sam Rayburn Reservoir and volleyball, mountain biking, wild life viewing and birding for those who want to stay on shore. The Red-cockaded woodpecker, an endangered species, is found throughout the forest surrounding the reservoir. The bird makes its home by pecking cavities in large, living pine trees.

What Guests Are Saying

Hanks Creek campground is well-kept and offers a peaceful atmosphere, with clean sites and decent facilities, making it a great spot for relaxation and outdoor activities. Many campers enjoyed the beautiful views of the lake and appreciated the friendly park hosts. However, some areas are in need of maintenance and updates, particularly the boat ramps and restroom facilities, which have been affected by recent flooding and storms.

This is a great park to rest and relax with friends and family. We have been going to Hanks Creek for many years and never had any issues. Just wish they had septic hookups at the camp sites especially when we stay a week or more. Without septic it can be a pain in the the you know what.

Bring a boat, otherwise there is nothing much to do. Had site 35 which was the most isolated and backed into the calm water. Able to sit out and watch heron, osprey and bald eagles. Tried to go biking but there were so many loose dogs in the area just outside the park that it wasn’t safe. Came back from town one day and found a boat tied up at our site, and we didn’t bring one. Then after dark there were two men walking down the side of our camper! It turned out to be the two camp hosts, who told me that my site was the only one that have a good place to anchor a boat, so they use it. Needless to say it was inconsiderate and unsettling to have strangers walking through your camp site unannounced.

The campground is lovely however many of the sites could use some attention. The site we had reserved had a very tall dead tree and since it was windy while we were there we opted to change sites. The next day we saw a huge branch from that tree had fallen in the campsite - had we been there we would have had camper damage. Many of the sites had crumbling parking pads . The overall campground is beautiful - just needs alittle attention!
