About Hanks Creek

Hanks Creek Park has something for everyone, with plenty of water sports on Sam Rayburn Reservoir and volleyball, mountain biking, wild life viewing and birding for those who want to stay on shore. The Red-cockaded woodpecker, an endangered species, is found throughout the forest surrounding the reservoir. The bird makes its home by pecking cavities in large, living pine trees.

What Guests Are Saying

Hanks Creek campground is well-kept and offers a peaceful atmosphere, with clean sites and decent facilities, making it a great spot for relaxation and outdoor activities. Many campers enjoyed the beautiful views of the lake and appreciated the friendly park hosts. However, some areas are in need of maintenance and updates, particularly the boat ramps and restroom facilities, which have been affected by recent flooding and storms.

The stay in general was nice. The site we were in (29) had a very good view of the lake and nice shade for most of the day. It was the week after July 4 so it was hot but the shade with the aid of a fan it was tolerable most of the day.

The park was relatively clean and the attendants were nice. We stayed in site 26 which is at the end of the peninsula on the lower loop.

We were robbed along with about 10 other families. We were told that people camped in the park stole fishing equipment, tools, a motor etc. The main gate is not locked at night because it is broken and has been broken for quite a long time. We do not feel comfortable camping here. This is the second time we have been robbed at Hanks Creek. Also our site had not been mowed when we arrived. And it was not mowed while we were there for almost 2 weeks. Weeds were knee deep. Needless to say, we won’t be camping there again. There is a private park nearby where we will camp.

The showers near the entrance to the park need some exhaust vents. It was so hot in the showers that I was sweating more coming out than when I was going in.

We stayed for a High School Tournament and had a great time. The only regret was it took us 4 years to find this wonderful place. The security over the weekend patroling the area made sleeping alot better than where we normally stay. I did'nt worry so much about things being stolen out of the boat at night. We would highly recommend...

Cancellation policy

  • Reservation fees are non-refundable. For campsites, cabins, lookouts, yurts, group sites, and similar stays, we charge a reservation service fee of $8.
  • Standard cancellations usually have a $10 cancellation fee. Customers can generally cancel before the check-in date online.
  • Late cancellation rules differ by stay type.
    • Individual campsites: cancelling after 12:00am local time the day before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
    • Cabins, lookouts, and yurts: cancelling less than 14 days before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
    • One-night reservations: a late cancellation usually forfeits the full amount paid, up to the total original reservation cost.
  • Modifications are allowed before the cut-off window, but fees depend on the change. Changing to dates completely outside the original reservation dates may trigger a $10 change fee. Extending or shortening a stay that still includes original dates usually has no change fee, though refunds may depend on timing and facility rules. Switching to the same type of campsite for the same dates usually has no change fee, but price differences are charged or refunded.
  • Early departures may or may not be refunded. At certain facilities, partial refunds may be possible if staff can mark the site available for other visitors. No refund is given for a night if the early departure is requested after that day's check-out time.
  • Security deposits are separate. Security deposits may be refunded to the original payment method if the facility is left in acceptable condition, as determined by the property.
