What Guests Are Saying
Hanks Creek campground is well-kept and offers a peaceful atmosphere, with clean sites and decent facilities, making it a great spot for relaxation and outdoor activities. Many campers enjoyed the beautiful views of the lake and appreciated the friendly park hosts. However, some areas are in need of maintenance and updates, particularly the boat ramps and restroom facilities, which have been affected by recent flooding and storms.

We love this park. Great fishing. Beautiful views. And it’s nice to be able to swim in a lake when it’s Texas hot. We will be back.

Concrete pads for campers are all broken off . Many table toppers have been damaged by falling trees. Our particular spot #37 had not been cleaned nor "blown off" when we arrived. We realize that repeated storms and high water have damaged the boat dock and boat launch area. The "SLOW-NO WAKE" signs have been washed away , people are speeding up the boat cuts. Even the Hanks Creek Recreation Area sign was gone. The camp hosts were very helpful. The swimming area was closed so people were swimming in the boat lane behind their camping spot. Hanks Creek is/was a beautiful park. Perhaps the Engineers will develop a plan so that the park does not flood in the future.

The boat launch and dock have been in disrepair/ closed for a year... although game wardens launch there without issue all the time, double standard? The sign as well. Clear cutting has helped with bugs and stray animals, that's a plus.

Site 37 had a large tree that had fell and was blocking access to the lake. Couldn't pull the boats up to camp. The corp of engineers knew about this and we even seen the ranger drive through the park. No one fixed this problem. I didn't know this was a problem until I arrived to camp. Bad main breaker shut down whole loop. They also knew about the breaker but didn't fix it. The boat ramp was closed. The corp of engineers blames in on money and resources, but the public knows that is not the truth. Been camping there many years, this is the worst it has ever been. Used to be a really nice place. Whoever makes these decisions on behalf of the corp of engineers needs to do better.
