What Guests Are Saying
Hanks Creek campground is well-kept and offers a peaceful atmosphere, with clean sites and decent facilities, making it a great spot for relaxation and outdoor activities. Many campers enjoyed the beautiful views of the lake and appreciated the friendly park hosts. However, some areas are in need of maintenance and updates, particularly the boat ramps and restroom facilities, which have been affected by recent flooding and storms.

Site 37 had a large tree that had fell and was blocking access to the lake. Couldn't pull the boats up to camp. The corp of engineers knew about this and we even seen the ranger drive through the park. No one fixed this problem. I didn't know this was a problem until I arrived to camp. Bad main breaker shut down whole loop. They also knew about the breaker but didn't fix it. The boat ramp was closed. The corp of engineers blames in on money and resources, but the public knows that is not the truth. Been camping there many years, this is the worst it has ever been. Used to be a really nice place. Whoever makes these decisions on behalf of the corp of engineers needs to do better.

We always have fun at Hanks. However, we are very disappointed in the way that the park looks. There was a lot of work done over the last 2 years, but a storm came and there has been no clean up. There was quite a few limbs and trees down. A lot of the spaces are closed as is the boat ramp. Also the old spaces are in need of a makeover. Do you have a date in which the clean up will begin? A lot of time and money was spent I'm sure, on all the work, but now looks awful and the places that are closed if fixed, would generate more money.

Nice and quiet during the weekdays, sans the random late night trespassing of local teens who skirt the perimeter on ATV's and race up and down the street like a raid. I get it, theyre teens out to have fun and they dont damage anything but what they do is illegal and disrespectful and does pose a potentially disastrous and tragic threat with pedestrians taking a night walk. Another issue I noticed is, again, with teens not observing the no wake zone. Jealousy on my part? Maybe, i didnt bring my boat...and maybe Id like to lose 40 lbs and 40 years and be a teen again.
There are pine trees that reach to the heavens, with some being half destroyed by beetles and wood peckers, so pick your spot carefully and consider upcoming weather to avoid falling branches or even, potentially, entire trees. If the review sounds negative, then my plan is working, because honestly I would like to keep this place to myself and watch the eagles that live in the area and enjoy the serenity...except the weekends. I like it and, no doubt, will be back.

we rented the group spot as well as 4 or 5 other separate sites for our 40+ group. EXCELLENT LOCATION!!!! The camp host, Ms. Evelyn was super helpful and nice. Sites were clean and spacious. Our church group will be going back and hopefully we will have more people and more fun!!!
