We had a beautiful setting backing up to the water. We were the only camper in our section, which gave us space. Otherwise, it would feel crowded. Pads for the campsite were new and wide enough to put the steps down and still be on concrete. Roads within the sections are narrow with sharp bends. Roads running thru the campground were covered with leaves, so it was not possible to see the edges of the road. Bathrooms had tiles falling down and did not look clean. The town of Jefferson is nearby, which is interesting to explore. The campground also had lots of deer to watch.

This is a beautiful park. I have come hear for years but they have improved many of the campsites and many of them are water front sites. The park personnel is also helpful and very friendly. There is good fishing and much wildlife to see. Jefferson, TX is only 15-20 minutes from the park and is a neat little town to visit.
We will continue to visit Johnsons Creek.

Normally, we have a great time and there are no issues with either the campground or experience. However, this time, when we pulled up to our reserved space, (since October), there was a tent, on the tent pad, in our reserved site. These campers were part of the camper group in the adjacent spot, and had been advised they needed to move their tent as they could not set up camp in the grass, so they were allowed to move to the tent pad on my reserved site. It has always been my understanding that this was a RV camping spot but a tent could be included if needed for a larger group. No one in their group had an RV. The staff management offered to find another location for us. That was not an option for us so we agreed to allow the campers to stay on the tent pad for that night only. The problem was solved when heavy rain moved in and the campers left the area. I feel that since we had made the reservations for our camping trip, there should not have been an allowance made for others to take possession of part of the site we paid for. Otherwise, it was a nice trip and we were able to relax.

We have camped here for several years, during the week of Thanksgiving. Johnson Creek has always been a very nice camp, however in the last couple of years it has gone down. This year the water did not work for the first 3 days we were there. The camp hosts no longer enforce the rules. Campers park boats & trailers everywhere, including the grass areas and dogs are allowed to run free. So poop is just left wherever it droops. The hosts do not clean up the sites after campers leave. The fire rings are often full of half burnt trash and wood. The setting is pretty, it's a shame that the Corp of Engineers have let this campground go ! ! ! We will look for another campground. SAD it is ! The little town of Jefferson is close by and really a fun place to visit.
