What Guests Are Saying

Split Mountain Group Campground offers spacious sites, clean facilities, and a beautiful landscape ideal for group gatherings. Camp hosts are friendly, and there's ample wildlife and river access for recreation. However, some sites lack shade and may not be suitable for tents, and the campground's layout can lead to separation among groups.

We planned a family group camping weekend July 26-29, 2024. Our expectation was that we would all be in one campground. Group Campsite C was actually 3 campgrounds and one was across the little road. We were much more spread out than we hoped to be. We made it work but were disappointed that we couldn't be closer. Most of us were in tents and one family group was in a pulled camper trailer. We did not plan to raft down the river but there was another large group that came to raft multiple days. They set their tents up close to our camping area then complained when the adults in our group were softly talking at night away from our sleeping children. The campsite tables are sturdy and there are plenty of very heavy tables. There is one fire pit per campsite, Group C has 3 campsites. We set 2 canopies over tables to create additional shade but the wind wrecked them. Two of the campsites in Group C had plenty of shade but the one across the road had very little shade. The bathrooms could have been cleaned more regularly. There were flushing toilets. There is a spigot and drinking fountain outside of the bathrooms to rinse feet off. The surroundings were beautiful. The river is a bit muddy but we played in the water. The river bank near the campsite is rocky and sloped but we made it work. The next day we moved to the sandy beach near the boat ramp. It is also sloped but the kids liked digging in the sand. Some people in our group floated down the river a few times, not far. It's not too deep but the water is more swift in the middle of the river. They liked it. We went to the Dinosaur Quarry hiking up to the quarry then taking the shuttle down. The next day we went to the homestead and hiked in the box canyon. The kids liked the house a lot. We let them play in the area. We enjoyed our family time but will probably not go back to this campground.

Great campsite, but this is a Dark Sky park and the campground hosts both had light ropes under their RV’s that lit up the entire campground and made stargazing with a telescope less than optimal.

Pretty nice group campground. The pullouts are a bit small, had a little trouble getting our 22’ trailer where we wanted it. Really nice “beach” on the river just past the boat ramp.
