This was my first return to the Needles District Campground in Canyonlands National Park in about 25 years, and I was pleased to find it was a wonderful as I remembered it to be. We were grateful to take advantage of a late cancellation to book a two-night stay on short notice. The only complaints I had about our specific campsite (23 B) was that one sheltered tent pad was too small for our 2-person REI Half-Dome tent and the other, larger, tent pad was located out in the open, near the road, and without shade or a windbreak. But it was adequate for our needs and since we visited in late October the lack of shade wasn't an issue. This campground makes for an excellent "base camp" from which to do day hikes - either from the Elephant Hill Trailhead, or the campground itself.
We enjoyed the strenuous 10.8 mile round trip hike to Druid Arch from the Elephant Hill Trailhead, which took us about 6 3/4 hour to complete with rest stops. The last quarter mile or so was quite challenging, with significant vertical gain, and a short slickrock "chute" with just enough pitch and exposure to make us think twice about continuing on. But we kept our weight over our boots and scrambled on up and through the chute to the next challenge - the ladder and handrail (which was much less daunting than the chute) - that lead us to the upper reaches of the trail and stunning views of this unusual and spectacular arch. As expected, the hike back to the trailhead was significantly easier than the hike in to the arch - even the slickrock chute seemed less daunting on the way down - and we made it back to our truck with about a half hour of daylight left. A great, exhausting, but very fun and scenic day. Highly recommended in the cooler weather of Fall. (I wouldn't even attempt it in Summer due to the heat and exposure.)
Great campground. Wonderful hikes.

This site was absolutely incredible and our favorite in loop B (the only reservable sites). It’s private, has rocks to climb up on and is right next to the trail. My personal favorite campground and in my opinion the best reservable site there.

Very quiet and dark place to camp. Although I was in the last site on the B loop, so YMMV. The bathrooms are very nice, there is even a dishwashing sink and water filling station outside. The only negative I can say about this campground is that all the sites with big views are in the A loop, which you can't reserve.
