The cabin is cozy and warm. After our stay, we always clear out the ashes from the wood stove and build a ready-to-be-lit fire for the next guests. Unfortunately, the woodstove has temporarily been removed for repairs. You can call the St George Ranger District for the most recent updates about the road and cabin conditions.

Forest service needs to seriously maintenance/clean the chimney/baffle. We followed the instructions on the wall to the wood burning stove exactly. The baffle up near the wall, that the damper controlled, belched smoke into the cabin, even after exhaustive efforts to "dial" the damper in. We had to get up every night to air out the cabin to keep the alarms from going off, thank God they did, or we might not have woken up. Ended up keeping most of the windows cracked and the front door open at night to keep it ventilated. We ended up cutting our trip a day short due to the wood stove issue, as we did not want to spend a night at 10 degrees with no fire.
On a plus note the cabin was great, perfect for our use. Stove, microwave, and fridge all worked. The new futon was a nice addition. The valley was serene and we were the only people in the valley the 3 nights we were there.
We did have to snow-shoe in as the snow banks were up to 6ft past the second gate near Fisherman's parking area. Would have been nice if the snow plow had gone the extra .5 miles up the road...Something to note if you book this cabin during this time. Pack warm, but light!

The guard station cabin is cozy, there was plenty of wood for the fire, there’s 2 portable heaters that don’t work. If you stay there during the winter I would recommend you to sleep in the living room because the bedroom gets pretty cold, the futon is very comfortable, we took an electric blanket. The kitchen is stocked with pots and pans and silverware, paper towels and cleaning supplies. The stove works great and the refrigerator it felt like it didn’t work but not sure, there’s a microwave which we didn’t use. There is also some playing cards and puzzles which by the way the eagle puzzle is missing 3 pieces, lol. My only recommendation would be to install a different door lock because it doesn’t locked from the inside so is not safe. If you stay in the winter keep in mind that is about 1 mile walking to the cabin, it was about 5 ft. of snow when we stay. Be sure to take plenty of water and food. We really enjoyed our time at the cabin it was really quiet and beautiful views from the porch.

A great place to stay as long as you carefully read the winter conditions.

Everything was great! The guard station was cozy and clean and had just had painting done on the cute porch. There was plenty of wood for a fire (though I just used the provided heater) and the outdoor picnic/fire area was lovely. I can't wait to come back with friends! Just be sure to bring enough water so you can also do your dishes! :)
The camp staff that I talked to was also very friendly and informative. They are working very hard to keep the area lovely. Thanks!

The cabin was lovely, quiet and had plentiful supplies, temperature was great. The only improvement would be to install lock on the front door to secure the cabin at night. To secure it we had to padlock the front door and walk to the back to secure.

I rented this cabin during peak season, when the water was supposed to be on and the indoor restroom with shower open and operational. However, the indoor restroom was locked with a padlock, therefore it was not useable. The water was on in the cabin, the kitchen sink was operational. I have no idea why they would keep the bathroom locked. The kitchen table is also broken, and poorly mended. There was one kitchen chair. In past years there have always been four chairs. There were a few minor issues with doors and windows not operating well or closing properly. It seems that whomever is responsible for maintenance this year isn't doing well.

The place needs some major TLC! It's drab, dingy and dirty.
Beds (mattresses) are in terrible shape.
You're better off staying in a camp sight!
