About Pine Valley Guard Station

Pine Valley Guard Station is located in scenic Pine Valley Recreation Area, about 45 minutes from St. George, Utah. Built in 1935 by the Civilian Conservation Corps, the station was used to house a recreation guard during the summer months to assist the visiting public. The cabin is open year-round and is accessible by vehicle during good road conditions. Winter use of the cabin may require snowshoeing, hiking or cross-country skiing about 1.5 miles from the trailhead at the entrance to the Pine Valley Recreation Area. Many modern amenities are offered, including electricity. Guests only need to bring a few of their own supplies to have a truly comfortable stay in this charming retreat within the Dixie National Forest.

The cabin comes stock with some pots, pans, and silverware. Additionally there is 3 different beds, 2 of those are the bottom and top of the bunk bed and then the other is the fold out couch. All of the beds including the bunk beds can comfortably fit 2 people.

Beautiful views from the porch. Very quiet. Amazing stars! The wood burning stove was very cozy and kept the cabin warm all night.

Was not aware that a code was needed that was sent thru email. Needless to say, we hiked in from a closed gate with our belongings in tow, only to find out it was closed. We hiked back to the car and left. Ended up camping on a Forest Road nearby. Never bothered to call since we didn’t want to hike back again. It was unfortunate that in our conversation about the cabin that a code should be expected in the email.

Cute little cabin. Reservoir gate was closed so we walked about a third of a mile in with our things. Everything was clean and the futon was comfortable. Plenty of wood to keep us warm with the wood burning stove. I do wish the electric heater had worked though. Outhouse was also clean.

Cabin is fully stocked with dishes, stove, fridge, and even a microwave. I read reviews that said the beds were uncomfortable, however, we found the futon bed in the main room to be nice and cozy. The weather was beautiful, and we never had to use the wood stove. The hot shower was wonderful also.

We enjoyed the cabin, it is certainly not fancy but is functional. The refrigerator barely works, so don't overload on perishables.
The view is lovely and the riverwalk is just across the road. We had deer roam by each evening. A beautiful place to star watch, no light pollution.

Furniture that was about to fall apart. Dirty floor. Crock prints on the wall. Mold on ceiling in kitchen. Rocking chairs on porch coming apart. Fridge did not work. Bunk bed posts splitting apart. Futon/bed was the most uncomfortable floor might have been better.
