About Simpson Springs Campground

The campground is situated on the eastern edge of Utah's West Desert near the historic Simpson Springs station on the Pony Express National Historic Trail. Simpson Springs was the site of a significant Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) camp in the late 1930s and early 1940s, just prior to the establishment of the US Army Dugway Proving Grounds during World War II.

What Guests Are Saying

Simpson Springs Campground is praised for its beautiful vistas, cleanliness, and convenient facilities, making it a great spot for groups and stargazing. The pavilion is well-equipped and offers shelter from the sun, though visitors should be prepared for windy conditions. However, issues like reserved sites being occupied, occasional maintenance concerns, and disturbances from noisy campers can detract from the experience.

I reserved my site online before going, but there is no camp host so no one marked the site as reserved. We showed up late to the campsite and someone thought it was first-come-first-served and was all set up in our spot. Extremely frustrating for both of us. Made for a difficult night. We made it work, but this shouldn’t be a worry when you reserve the campsite ahead of time. Someone please fix this process!

The view from our campsite was absolutely beautiful! The 25 mile washboard road leading to the campground had me second-guessing the decision to go there with my new trailer. But I’m really happy I made it and found a new beautiful and secluded spot. I went on the 24th of July weekend and there was only one other campsite being used.

The campground is pretty nice. Sites are pretty level for trailers and RV's. Camping here made it easy to get to the Dugway Geode Beds pretty early the next morning before it got too hot.

Need to have a way to purchase same day reservations. Some people don't carry cash very often now.
Women's bathrooms had no paper and the men's was very low. Luckily I was the only person there.
