What Guests Are Saying
The campground at Spruces in Big Cottonwood Canyon offers beautiful scenery, friendly staff, and well-maintained sites, making it a popular choice for campers. Many visitors appreciate the peaceful atmosphere, great hiking options, and clean facilities, despite some complaints about the restroom situation and water availability. The bathrooms are shut down and only have portable toilet .Water wasn’t consistently on. No notice beforehand. Camp ground host didn’t know what was going on or how long the problem would last. Didn’t see any work going on to resolve the issue. We pay enough in camping fees to expect a little better upkeep.

Such a wonderful campground with the best hosts. We had a quiet and peaceful weekend. The toilets are all locked but the porta potties were very clean.

We like the convenience of the Spruces. It’s close to home but still gets us up in the mountains. Nice flush toilets (except there was a problem with them while we were there and they had to bring in honey buckets). The only thing that is becoming a problem is that there is stinging nettle everywhere; big plants lining the roads. I keep hoping they’ll cut it down. It’s worse than last year.

Site 049 was great, very secluded and couldnt hear or see anyone from the site, and just enough space for an 8 person tent (easily could do 2-3 tents if smaller as well). Only consideration is the table/pit is about 50 yards from the car with some incline so be aware of that if u need plug access for inflatable beds n such, youll be walking a bit back n forth but still worth it! Beautiful area and farther from the road so not noisy at all.

The Spruces campground is close to Salt Lake, but far enough away to feel like you are disconnected from the every day life.
We love the beautiful trees and flowers!
And it is very likely that you may spot a moose or deer while there

Hello, I have noticed over the years that it has gone down hill, the picnic tables are terrible, needing upkeep & paint, bathrooms need paint internally. At one time long ago it was beautiful but the upkeep on the campsites is terrible!!

Beautiful, but there was no water and because of that there was also no access to bathrooms this time.

We love the Spruces but it's time for some upgrades. The blacktop on the paths and around the firepits and tables is a tripping hazard. The firepits could all be upgraded as well. Our first trip this season, the bathrooms were closed. Other than that, still one of our favorites.
