About Red Cliffs Campground

Red Cliffs Recreation Area includes a campground, day use areas, a non-motorized trail system, and interpreted public use sites. Dinosaurs left their footprints, now visible in the sandstone. Ancestral Puebloans lived here in the 10th century, growing corn, beans, and squash along Quail and Leeds Creek. Mid-19th century pioneers farmed here, supplying the area’s silver miners with food. Located within the Red Cliffs National Conservation Area, the Recreation Area is managed to conserve and protect the natural and cultural resources of the public lands.

Thoroughly enjoyed staying at Red Cliffs. The campground is in a truly lovely setting, right up against the red rocks with a small creek and cottonwoods. The sites are well-maintained and there were plenty of water hydrants. We did not see any staff in 3 days, so there was no help with loose dogs and trail questions. The materials from the visitors center (in St. George) and the campground maps do not adequately answer basic questions about the trails: trailhead locations, length, elevation gain, connectors, endpoints, features. I would love to have had some interpretative displays about the plants. Historic Silver Reef town site is nearby with a self-guided tour and museum worthy of a visit.

Beautiful sites right up against the red rock. Our site #1 had both covered and uncovered picnic tables. Potable water on tap was a nice plus. The hike up canyon is a MUST DO!

Red Cliffs was a great place to camp (no hook ups) and hike. Beautiful!! There is a fair amount of day use that subsides during the evenings, so night is quiet. My only complaint is the $8 reservation fee imposed by recreation.gov (in addition to the $15 camping fee). A smaller reservation fee would allow greater accessibility for those looking to experience the beautiful setting.

Beautiful campground, but very busy with day use during the day, especially on weekends.
