The lake and surrounding were beautiful but we had a very underwhelming experience staying at Grout Pond. We arrived by bike in the early evening and found the signage to our campsite (and broadly) to be very difficult to understand. For example, the hand pump water should have a note on it to let people know wether it is suitable for drinking or not (we boiled ours). We found our campsite to be trashed (#3) with beer cans littering the ground. It additionally was swamped with inches of standing water over the entire campsite - culverts with railroad ties etc. - would be helpful to mitigate this. We slept across the path in site #1 because it was slightly drier. Even though the site was marked as reserved - there was no one staying in it. It should be noted that none the lake front sites were occupied even though they were marked as reserved on the night we stayed there. I imagine people book them because they're cheap and if their plans or the weather changes they just don't show up.

Site 8 had a brand new Adirondack shelter in great shape. It rained torrentially and we stayed dry.

Beautiful pond, very nice campsite (#1). My only complaint was the toilet at the parking lot…ugh.
