Great campground, lots of good hiking including Appalachian trail. Some spots designated as RV pull-throughs are tight curves with trees next to the pavement - we would have had trouble with our 8' bed dually pulling a 32' 5th wheel in quite a few spots. Be sure to look at the pictures closely for trees!

Loft is a great campground! Between the Waypoint across the road and the Campstore at the bottom of the hill you can easily get everything you might need!
Bathrooms in the F Loop were nice, my campsite had a bear box which was great but trash cans are a little far so keep that in mind!
The only issue was the campsite itself, F171 is RIGHT next to the bathroom so we had people walking through our site the entire weekend, even when we asked them not too. It felt like our campsite was a fishbowl as everyone walking by could see us at all times, would not recommend for a party larger than 4.

Had a great time but needed to change site initially. First site was way too unlevel and my RV couldn’t level. Traded for A65 and it was great!

The campground was very nice. Most of the spots were nice and felt fairly private. The bathroom were all clean. We really appreciated having hiking trails accessible without driving from the campground. The campground store was great to have nearby, well stocked with a lot of basics. We ate one meal at the Lodge restaurant and our food was delicious. The ice cream at the wayside restaurant was also awesome!
My few complaints are fairly trivial. Upon getting to our reserved site we realized it didn’t have a bear proof food locker. Almost every other site had one and our site had a spot for one but it must have been broken. It was fine, we kept things in our vehicle, but it would have been nice to have warning and maybe move to another site since it wasn’t full while we were there. The showers were some of the nicest campground showers I’ve used. They had good pressure and hot water, but they only worked in increments of $5 for 10 minutes. I would have liked the options of taking a shorter shower since I don’t always need a full 10 minutes. Overall, we would camp at Loft Mountain again if we make a trip to Shenandoah.

Pick you spot carefully as many are on an incline or facing "the wrong way". Campground is right on the AT and with plenty of side-hiking opportunities. Verizon cell service was spotty.

Beautiful views from Skyline drive and the Appalachian Trail is a short walk from Loft Mountain campground.

Site G180. Planned to camp with a 25 ft hybrid. Loop was sloped with a semi flat spot at the top. After several attempts there was no perfect spot where the steps would open and the slide wasn’t blocked by a tree. Might be worth a call to the office prior to booking…. On the bright side it looked like a great tent site.

We used this as a base to visit Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello near Charlottesville, VA, one hour away. Took the 45-minute highlights tour of the mansion, then explored the grounds and many exhibits on our own. On the way back to Loft Mountain, stopped at Pippin Hill Farm and Vineyards for a late lunch. The hike to Doyle’s River Falls was nice and uncrowded, 3.3 miles round trip, turning around just after the falls, with longer hikes possible.

I very much enjoy the more individual/secluded feel of Loft Mountain sites over Big Meadow. Also, our site had bear box (ALL sites need to have one, by the way) and a great flat spot for tent (E158)
