Elizabeth Furnace Group Camp

This was a tough one for us. Everything about this campsite was fantastic, we loved how private the campsites were and the creek running behind the campground was a wonderful way to cool off. However, we really struggled with the culture of this campsite. Not sure if we just picked an unlucky weekend, with challenging neighbors, but many campers had dogs running around without leases, we had a few wander into our campsite and one of our kids left with a sizable dog bite. There were also dogs barking all night long. It was noisy and not the pleasant camping experience we hoped for. We would love to come back for the amenities, but are hesitant to return because of ALL the misbehaving dogs.

We absolutely loved camping at Elizabeth Furnace and would 100% do it again! The small group campground was perfect for our large family and secluded so that we didn't see anyone else. We hiked the trails at the day use area which were great for the smaller kids and of course had to go across the swinging bridge several times. Played in Passage Creek. Just had the best experience!!!

Group Camp B is a large, well maintained car camping site with an unusual twist. Your car will be about 100 yards from the actual fire ring and tent pads. Still close enough for kitchen-sink level of car camping though you'll be making a few trips to get it all in place.
It's close to very good backpacking trails with lots of good primitive campsites here and there.
We went to Strasburg reservoir and back on a loop and it was all good! With the leaves down, we could really see out and around in the woods. Best enjoyed in the winter.

Excellent for large groups. Be sure to bring wagons to bring your gear from the car to the campsites. River is right nearby and the Signal Knob loop is a very good hike with beautiful views.
