As soon as I pulled into the site and turned off my car engine, I knew I was in exactly the right spot. The lack of human noise combined with the trees, birds, and light breeze started feeding my soul immediately. It was that way my whole four day stay. There were other people at the campground, but not a lot. No one was running a generator all day or throwing loud parties at night. It was wonderful. The bathrooms were well cleaned, and everything worked as expected.
The location of the campground was excellent, too, for exploring back roads and lesser used trails. The twisty three mile almost-single-lane drive back to the campground would be difficult in a long vehicle like an RV, but for an SUV was fine. The campground was set far enough back from the road that you didn't hear daily traffic at all. Highly recommend. I'm definitely returning here when I come to the area.
This year - 2021 - Raccoon Branch Campground is closed and Grindstone Campground has no water or electricity.
There is definitely no cell service. I tried my AT&T phone and Verizon hotspot and neither got any sort of signal.

the campground was beautiful and had several clean and well maintained bathrooms. Hosts were also very friendly and warned us about incoming severe weather.

The campground was great! The only think I wish I’d known was that you had to pay extra to use the showers.
