About Kamloops Island Campground

Kamloops Island is a small, shady campground at the mouth of the Kettle River. The main hub of campsites is tucked into the vegetation at the top and can fit tents and RVs. A cluster of walk-in tent sites is spread out in a grove of pines. Many campsites offer views of the river, lake, and surrounding landscape. There is a courtesy dock, but no boat launch.

Gorgeous campground, some road noise from Hwy 395 but it died down later in the evening. Apple Maps users beware, you may be navigated nearly twenty miles in the wrong direction if the map pulls the address from your reservation email. Would camp here again.

Quiet at site #3. Short walk gets you to the rope swing and down to the river by the bridge where there was lots of activitygoing on. It was hot. You can get to water off the back side of the site, but it's pretty steep.

Nice campground. Good access to Lake Roosevelt at a few different spots. Wish I could have had a campfire but given the current weather conditions I understand. Would recommend this site to others, road noise was not an issue for me.

We had the campground basically to ourselves, which was very nice. We camped at the walk-in sites, there is a hill but really not bad. Very beautiful and great level sites with easy accessibility to the water. The waterfront is rocky and I recommend water shoes. Very peaceful...

Very small campsites and not much to do at the campground. No running water so you must bring your own.

This campground is small, on the water between the Kettle River and the Columbia. We were the only campers in the entire campground, but we were not alone: the locals kept driving in to drop off their personal trash in the park dumpster (which was overflowing), use the pit toilets, throw bottles into the fire pits, or just sit in empty campsites with their radios blaring. It is clearly a regional hang-out, which makes it pretty much no fun for the campers. There was a lot of litter and trash in our site when we arrived, which we cleaned up, but overall the campground really needs some TLC.

We realize that budget cuts have all but removed any rangers or staff from campgrounds these days, and it's very sad that these parks for which we pay with both taxes and camping fees are just sort of deteriorating.

I won't be back. Sigh.
