About Cougar Rock Campground

Cougar Rock Campground, on the southwest side of Mt. Rainier National Park, is conveniently located near Paradise. Individual campsites are reservable on this page. Group campsite reservations can be made via Cougar Rock Group Campground.  Paradise is the most popular destination in the park, with a lodge and visitor center, many miles of hiking trails and a commanding view of the mountain-the highest in the state and Cascade range. The main attraction at Mount Rainier National Park is the mountain itself, a massive glacier-clad volcano, peaking at 14.4 ft. and dominating the skyline for hundreds of miles. Visitors travel through majestic old-growth forests, past tumbling waterfalls and historic buildings to reach sub-alpine meadows, where world-famous wildflower displays bloom through July and August. Popular activities in the park include sight-seeing, hiking, rock climbing and camping. Cougar Rock campground is located at an elevation of 3.2 ft. Summers are dry and cool with daytime temperatures ranging from 60 to 80 degrees. Weather throughout the park can be variable, so visitors should come prepared.

This campsite is a long pull through directly next to bathrooms and trash. Be prepared to block out the bathroom light at night. The B loop does not have a bathroom, and there is a path leading from the B loop directly through the paved pull through. I was unpleasantly surprised by this as a car camper when all night long people were walking within arms length of my car. Furthermore, the site directly behind mine had campers who decided to walk completely through my entire campsite back and forth multiple multiple times, like right through my picnic table area and everything, I woke up startled by this. They were nice enough though, apologetic… and later when I stayed in the B loop I understood why people were cutting through that much due to lack of facility in B loop/lack of easy official pathways, not completely their fault, but I would NOT stay at this particular site again because of this. I got lucky and was allowed to switch to a FCFS site in the A loop for my second night because I was so wigged out by people walking through constantly. I did appreciate the cleanliness of the bathrooms and having flush toilets and the proximity to paradise and longmire can’t be beat.

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit. Site C025 has no real level ground for a large tent though. If we came back, we would choose a different site. Thank you!!

We had reserved site E27. There were so many cut and fallen trees and limbs on the site that I feel it should not be offered as an option. It was a disaster zone. The Park Rangers were very understanding and helpful in helping us move for the last 4 nights of our stay. This is a very nice campground.

What a wonderful campground! My site was C01, which was quite a perfect spot. It felt tucked away and private, and it was close to the bathroom but not TOO close where the light or noises would be bothersome. Clean bathrooms with flush toilets, sinks, mirrors. As others have mentioned, there is no hand soap supplied in the bathrooms so bring your own. Great location for access to Paradise.
