What Guests Are Saying
Cougar Rock Group Campground offers a pleasant experience for families and groups, with ample space, good proximity to hiking trails, and a shaded walking path to Longmire. While some guests faced issues with group site reservations and a burn ban, many enjoyed the campground's atmosphere and the opportunity for exploration. Overall, it is a great spot for camping, especially when booked in advance.

We walked as a group from Cougar Rock to Longmire. It’s a nice option for all ages, in the shade on a hot day and an alternative when parking at Paradise is not possible.
We would love to have the shuttles back for more flexible options.

The group campsite was great! We bordered the forest which was great for the kids to play and explore. The campsites were separated enough that we didn't really hear much noise from the other groups. The proximity to the main paradise hiking trails was also a nice bonus!

A matter of circumstances but still a difficult time. I booked a group site a few months back, a few weeks before our visit I received an email that the group sites would be closed for 3 of the 4 days we were booked for and we were spread around in the first come first serve loop instead. These spots were on both sides of the road and had the bathroom in them so it was hard to feel like a unified group at times. Additionally, we didn't have a tent set up in 1 of these spots and we're getting asked multiple times a day from first come first serve people if they could use that spot even though it was marked reserved for our group. The last 2 nights we were there, people just set up camp in the night anyway without asking. There was no where to swim which isn't a huge deal as there was plenty of hiking. But unfortunately it had been warm the day before we got there and there was a burn ban for the entire duration of our stay. It was in the 30s at night, and rained for an entire day and the burn ban wasn't lifted. One member of our group asked the ranger about the burn ban since it had rained so much and he said "a little water doesn't lift the burn ban." It was VERY cold and I would have booked for later but it's the only time I could get a group spot for the Summer, especially because of all the construction in August and Ohanepacosh being closed for the season, but to be placed in the first come first serve section anyway and having people constantly ask for our spot/just using it without asking us while we were freezing and wet just wasn't the week at Rainier we were hoping for. Try to stay here later if possible or just move into someone's spot and hope for the best.

Great camp and our group throughly enjoyed our caming at Cougar Rock. Only one thing is the paper towel in the restroom went out on the first evening, so early.

This was one of the smaller group campsites but still great. Can’t wait to go back again! Definitely worth setting an alarm and waking up at 7am to book!

I love this area in Cougar Rock. I've stayed in the group campsites 4 times now. We were able to fit 3 big family tents here. The fire pits (3) were kind of in an awkward position and would be my only complaint, but we made it work.

Great place! Love everything about cougar rock group site. Except directly next to us was a group of 4 Ripken. Group sites are for 12 or more. We could have used the site and tried to reserve it, but they had it reserved. Not sure how to resolve this or if nps even cares. But this was not cool on their part.
