About Cougar Rock Campground

Cougar Rock Campground, on the southwest side of Mt. Rainier National Park, is conveniently located near Paradise. Individual campsites are reservable on this page. Group campsite reservations can be made via Cougar Rock Group Campground.  Paradise is the most popular destination in the park, with a lodge and visitor center, many miles of hiking trails and a commanding view of the mountain-the highest in the state and Cascade range. The main attraction at Mount Rainier National Park is the mountain itself, a massive glacier-clad volcano, peaking at 14.4 ft. and dominating the skyline for hundreds of miles. Visitors travel through majestic old-growth forests, past tumbling waterfalls and historic buildings to reach sub-alpine meadows, where world-famous wildflower displays bloom through July and August. Popular activities in the park include sight-seeing, hiking, rock climbing and camping. Cougar Rock campground is located at an elevation of 3.2 ft. Summers are dry and cool with daytime temperatures ranging from 60 to 80 degrees. Weather throughout the park can be variable, so visitors should come prepared.

Lovely campground with good-sized campsites (parking space is limited). Clean bathrooms. Conveniently-placed water sources. The park rangers who checked me in were friendly and helpful. I even got free firewood! This is a great placed campground for exploring the Paradise Area of the park.

Site E2 was overall a great site. Had privacy from other sites, was flat, and had adequate space for our tents and hammock. Close enough to a bathroom, but not too close. It is a corner site, so it is along the campground road, but this was not an issue. My only complaint is I wish the site had an individual bear box, but there was one available in front of the bathroom.

Cougar Rock Campground was amazing! I was especially impressed with the dishwashing station that was available for use at the restroom. Definitely head up to Paradise and hike some of the trails that are up there, including the Dead Horse Trail. The waterfalls are also beautiful in the area so check those out too!

Beautiful, clean, and quiet campground right nearby many trails and around a 20 minute drive from Paradise viewpoint. We did the Skyline Loop Trail which had amazing and clear views that day! Fall in Rainier is gorgeous
