Unfortunately, this was not a great stay. On our first arrival on night 1, we had a good encounter with a campground host/ranger when we arrived, and then ventured out to the beach for a nice sunset. After that things went a bit downhill. The weather was actually good and sunny but the spot was so dark and damp due to the nature of this place that a mouse ended up in our van overnight, which we discovered in the morning. It took a couple of hours to clean up the next morning since it was trying to nest - not in search of food. After that, I went to ask about parking in the main day use lot instead of at our space on the second night since... in my experience, if a mouse wants to nest, which this one did, and it knows it's way in.... it's coming back. The very nice guy from day 1, who I asked about this, looked over his shoulder and said that would not be possible, as a very rude and not happy woman park ranger came over (presumably his boss?) and interrupted us to vehemently say "that's nature" in a rude and dismissive tone (like I never dealt with a mouse before... cmon I have a camper van and live in the Southeast!). I had sort of tried to avoid her and talk to the nice guy -- since right before that I witnessed her telling another camper that she didn't care for "this campground" and would not be returning next year. (Hope I don't go to whatever campground she is at next year!!) Too bad that one park ranger caused such a bad taste for me, but I got the impression none of the other staff was all that fond of her. We left and went down the road to another campground for our second night... which was a far better and more enjoyable experience... with no disgruntled park ranger.

We had a great time at this camp ground. The beach was a little stroll away and the beach was beautiful. The tree of life itself was worth the trip. Beautiful. The bathrooms were clean and stocked. Only thing that would have made it better would have been showers. We will definitely be back. :)

We enjoyed the proximity to the beach - watching the rising or setting sun - it was beautiful. However, we did not enjoy our stay at the campground that much. The noise from the road carried quite a bit, campsites varied a lot in size (ours was very small) and not much light, even when the sun shines. Most importantly though, bathrooms were not very clean. The ban of camp fires was puzzling. It was a bit sad since there had been several rain showers and the campground was very damp.

Kalaloch beach is a great flat sand beach. Great for long walks. Lots of sand dollars. Had a site in E-loop and it was quiet even though full.

Arrival & departure
- The Kalaloch Ranger Station offers information during summer; contact them for hours.
Cancellation policy
- Reservation fees are non-refundable. For campsites, cabins, lookouts, yurts, group sites, and similar stays, we charge a reservation service fee of $8.
- Standard cancellations usually have a $10 cancellation fee. Customers can generally cancel before the check-in date online.
- Late cancellation rules differ by stay type.
- Individual campsites: cancelling after 12:00am local time the day before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
- Cabins, lookouts, and yurts: cancelling less than 14 days before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
- One-night reservations: a late cancellation usually forfeits the full amount paid, up to the total original reservation cost.
- Modifications are allowed before the cut-off window, but fees depend on the change. Changing to dates completely outside the original reservation dates may trigger a $10 change fee. Extending or shortening a stay that still includes original dates usually has no change fee, though refunds may depend on timing and facility rules. Switching to the same type of campsite for the same dates usually has no change fee, but price differences are charged or refunded.
- Early departures may or may not be refunded. At certain facilities, partial refunds may be possible if staff can mark the site available for other visitors. No refund is given for a night if the early departure is requested after that day's check-out time.
- Security deposits are separate. Security deposits may be refunded to the original payment method if the facility is left in acceptable condition, as determined by the property.
Fees & deposits
- A valid Olympic National Park pass is required for camping and recreation at Kalaloch. The Washington State Park Discover Pass is not accepted.
Safety & rules
- There is a 7-day maximum stay limit during the reservation season, and a collective 21-day limit for all Olympic National Park campgrounds. Kalaloch is open year-round on a first-come, first-serve basis outside the reservation season.
- Use caution when swimming due to drifting logs; do not play on beach logs, especially during high tide.
- Always check tide charts when hiking; some areas may be impassable at high tide.
- Riptides are common; swimming is at your own risk.
Site capacity
- Most sites at Kalaloch cannot accommodate large RVs or trailers; check site details before reserving.
Vehicles & parking
- One RV and one tow vehicle are allowed per site if they fit in the driveway and do not damage vegetation.
- A maximum of two passenger vehicles is allowed per site, provided they fit in the driveway and do not damage vegetation.

- Campsites with ocean views fill quickly; book early. Outside of the reservation season, Kalaloch campground is open year round on a first-come, first-served basis (weather permitting).
