About Kalaloch

Kalaloch Campground is on the reservation system May 15, 2026 - September 20, 2026. Important changes to the reservation booking windows: To better serve visitors, Kalaloch Campground will be releasing campsites in a series of three staggered block releases by loop. These block releases will be 6 months in advance, two weeks in advance, and 4 days in advance. A and B loop campsites will be available for reservation 6 months in advance.C and D loop campsites will be available for reservations two weeks in advance.E and F loop campsites will be available for reservations 4 days in advance. Please be aware that A, D, and E Loops have experienced substantial erosion damage to the road and campsites along the ocean bluff. For this reason, there are a number of ocean bluff campsites permanently closed.During the rest of the year, the campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis. During winter (November - April), some campground loops are closed, but camping is still available. Kalaloch Campground is located on the southwest coast of the Olympic Peninsula in Olympic National Park, on a high bluff adjacent to the Pacific Ocean. Although campsites are not directly on the beach, several of them overlook the water and there is beach access within the facility. The campground is large and set amidst a peaceful, coastal forest that thrives on the region's high annual rainfall. Rain or shine, it is one of the most visited areas of the park.

What Guests Are Saying

Kalaloch is praised for its stunning natural beauty, proximity to the beach, and great accommodations, making it a favorite destination for many campers. Visitors enjoy the tidepools, beautiful sunsets, and clean facilities, with some noting the helpfulness of the rangers. However, concerns include the need for better maintenance of the campground, issues with broken facilities, and a complicated reservation process. Despite these drawbacks, many campers express a strong desire to return.

The Kalaloch area is blessed with great natural beauty, and there's plenty to see from the campground and other spots in the area. I found the campground cleaner than most, including the well-stocked restrooms. Most folks I encountered seemed friendly and I was happy not to encounter much late-night carousing, etc., which I've run into in some other spots on the Olympic Peninsula. But I was disappointed to find the campground choked with RVs running generators, their occupants elbowing rapaciously for the best campsites, dogs sometimes barking and allowed to run loose, etc. The campground hosts were barely civil and seemed to have received special training in how to be less than helpful to a camper seeking information. Overall, I found that the juice wasn't worth the squeeze in terms of camping at Kalaloch and will camp elsewhere next time.

This was a great campground! Our site was clean and we loved the location to so many beaches and access to trails. Only negatives were some campers had fires when there was a fire ban and no hand soap in the bathroom though we did have our own.

I have been going to Kalaloch for over 70 years. The park used to be maintained very nicely however, today and for the past eight years this park has gone downhill. The sites are not maintained. The brush is overgrown weeds are everywhere. There’s no fresh rock to level the sites out, and the ashes are not cleared out of the fire pits this year. The fire pits were last used in August years before they weren’t used all summer and they were never emptied until the day after reservations ended. The only good thing about Kalaloch is that the bathrooms are very clean greatly appreciate those maintenance girls who clean the restrooms the compost is a joke. He does nothing and he has to be right whenever there’s a discussion with the guest not with me, but I’ve witnessed it with a bunch of guests having discussions with him while we were there The Campos worries if your tires are 1 inch over onto the main part of the road, but there’s no way to get any closer then we rented another site to put the vehicle in and in case our daughters came for the weekend and he said we can’t do that I think some of us that we’ve been coming for so long no the rules a little bit better than him not saying I’m a no at all, but he is just not the right person in my eyes to be a host for a beautiful park I wish and I pray that somebody can start maintaining the park on a regular Basis. My husband and I keep saying we would love to go there in volunteer just to clean it up and there’s no excuse why this cannot be done daily. They can blow an edge a little bit of the overgrown grass where people wanna put chairs around the campfire and blow the needles off of the site But the camp the Rangers and the hose say why do it we would just have to do it every day obviously they don’t want that part to be beautiful like it has been in the years

Legit right next to the bathroom so that was very convenient at night or early mornings. The steps to the beach by campsite A19 is less than a 3 min walk. This was very helpful and encouraging to spend more time at the beach while you're at the campground. I even had good enough service to Facetime so for beginners or people who are figuring out their way into nature, this is an easier spot to blend into. The campsite isn't the most private, but had enough space to feel like you're alone depending on how you set up. All in all a great campsite in my opinion for ease of access! Definitely go and see the Tree of life while you can and don’t miss sunset on the beach of course.
