About Ohanapecosh Campground

Ohanapecosh Campground, on the southeast side of Mount Rainier National Park, is surrounded by old growth forest and crossed by an exceptionally beautiful snow-fed river. Close to Ohanapecosh are popular hikes to Silver Falls. The Grove of the Patriarchs trail is closed to public access until the bridge accessing the Grove is replaced. The main attraction at Mount Rainier National Park is the mountain itself, a glacier-clad volcano of immense proportions. At 14,411 ft., it dominates the skyline for hundreds of miles. Visitors travel through majestic old-growth forests, past tumbling waterfalls and historic buildings to reach sub-alpine meadows, where world-famous wildflower displays are seen in July and August. Popular activities in the park include sight-seeing, hiking, climbing and camping. Ohanapecosh campground has an elevation of 1,914 feet. Weather is dry, cool and sunny in the summer with daytime temperatures in the 60 to 80-degree range. Even though the eastern side of the park can be sunnier than other areas, weather can be variable and visitors should come prepared.

What a perfect weekend to end the season. We have camped at Ohanapecosh in all types of weather but never as perfect as this past weekend. Hopefully the Stevens Canyon road to Paradise will soon be opened.
Ohanapecosh remains one of the nicest campground within the National Parks we have visited.

Lovely campground. Rangers placed us in a double site and then added another group with their dog even though other spaces were available. We got relocated. Check out the hot springs

The staff was very helpful and friendly. Only issue was a sullen young man had a large German Shepard on the waterfall trail. The dog lunged at me. The dog’s leash was dragging on the ground. The guy said it was an emotional support dog.

A BMW driving woman took her golden retriever into the women’s restroom. No one else could enter until they were done.

We are from Michigan but have stayed on the C loop of Ohanapecosh at least three or four times now. We just love how the campsites back up to the river. The Silver Falls trail right at the campsite is a wonderful loop leading up to the falls, and then circling around to return. It is longer than the sign indicated, closer to four miles round trip, not just over two as we had thought, but awesome trail.

Nice gravel site in old growth timber. A bit far to bathroom and water. We were lucky to have bushes on the east, a stream on the north and an empty spot on the west.

As an out of state visitor we were surprised with the State fees on everything. Also there were very few common ammenities one would expect in a national park. No wifi available at the visitors center, dump station has been removed (buried), bathrooms are old and need updating along with the potable water can be along way from campsites. On the positive side, the location and scenery are spectacular. We will be back in the area sometime, but will probably not stay in this campsite again.

Please pay attention to campsite maximum limits when selecting a site. If you exceed posted limits, you may be turned away upon arrival if a larger site is not available.

Maximum two tents per site provided both tents fit within the specified tent pad dimensions. Most campsites can only accommodate one tent. There is a maximum six people per campsite. Many campsites can only accommodate four or less.

Maximum two passenger vehicles per site provided both vehicles fit in the driveway, are not parked on any vegetation, and are clear of the roadway.

Motor homes over 32 feet and trailers over 27 feet are not allowed to enter the campground. Turns on loop roads are tight and vehicle damage is likely to occur.

There are no electric, water or sewer hook-ups available at individual campsites. Potable water is located in the B Loop. The dump station is out of order.

Please call the campground office at (360) 569-6627 for same day cancellations or if you will be arriving a day late. If a camper does not check-in at the Ohanapecosh Visitor Center at the campground window by 12:00pm check-out time the day after the scheduled arrival date, their reservation will be cancelled, the camper will incur a $10.00 service fee, and forfeit the first night's camping fee.
