About Tucannon Guard Station

The historic Tucannon Guard Station is a charming saltbox-style cabin constructed in 1909. It was inhabited by the first ranger in the Tucannon area, William Kendell, and his family. By 1916, the guard house became headquarters for the district for two years, and then continued on as a standard guard station. Staying here is like stepping back in time. The rooms inside are nicely decorated and cozy. Touches like curtains on the windows and modern furniture add to the destination experience. Beyond the cabin is plenty of photogenic scenery, plus options for prime fishing and hiking.

Cute little cabin, no AC, lots of screened windows and fans. The heaters work great. Charming kitchen, lots of pots, pans, cooking trays, cooking utensils, plates , cups, well stocked. The stairs are a doozy, watch that last one or you'll tumble at 3am like I did 😁😂.

There is another campsite next to it, but fairly secluded. What I love the most is while the core of engineer campgrounds haven't been allowing us to have fires. We were encouraged by the ranger to have a fire and to burn dead wood and leaves and other stuff we found in the fire ring.

The living room cabinet has lots of games in case you get bored or just want to have fun with the fam and friends.

Once inside the Guard Station (a long story on gaining access) it was nicely furnished and we found everything okay and working. I did not know there was a microwave already in the Guard Station as we had brought one up since the amenities shown on the website for this rental did not list a microwave. The area around the Guard Station is very pleasant. However, we had some rude campers across the road from us who decided to play their loud music all day long and didn't stop until after midnight. I had to use earplugs to sleep. I found this very annoying. The hot water takes a while to get through the system to the bathroom so be patient. There was some minor garbage I found around the Guard Station from previous occupants which I picked up. My wife said that the Guard Station was not as clean as it should have been when we used it. It looked like it was not swept out from the last occupants. The stove backing was dirty, but hard to know who left it like that. The beds very fairly comfortable. Ample pots and cooking ware. The lighting was excellent for reading and playing game. I liked the map board cupboard.

The code was changed before we got there and so we missed a night, but we loved the cabin. Very cozy, neat, and we appreciated the creature comforts of bathroom, electricity, and cooking facilities while being out in the forest.

My family and I make this a yearly vacation. We’ve enjoyed the Guard Station the past 5 falls. We were a bit disappointed though this year. The refrigerator leaked and soaked our food, and the stove (two burners) did not work.

Amazing little house. Normally I tent it, but this little treat spoiled us rotten. It actually is pretty clean for a clean it before you leave. Very comfy. I will be getting spoiled again soon. I would highly recommend this to anyone. My family enjoyed it very much. Thank you for blessing us.

Good fishing and great weather. The cabin was stocked with the comforts if home. We would definitely be interested in renting it again.

Great spot at the foothills of the Blue Mtns with Tucannon River right across the road. Popular and crowded area in summer, deserted in winter. Great spot for a family reunion? Several campsites surround the cabin. The cabin itself was very comfortable for USFS standards. Indoor plumbing, hot water, gas heat, comfy full bed, full-sized fridge with freezer, covered porch, full suite of pots, pans, utensils, etc. Our one complaint is only the two small back burners work on the stove top but that didn't slow us down much.
