About Snow Peak Cabin

Snow Peak Cabin is located high in the mountains of northeastern Washington state. It provides a year-round base camp from which guests can access thousands of acres of back country for skiing, hunting and exploration. Depending on the season, guests may also choose to enjoy the extensive system of quality mountain bike, horse and hiking trails that connect with the cabin. The cabin is not accessible by vehicle and the area around the cabin is closed to all forms of motorized use. The winter route begins at the Kettle Crest Trailhead on Sherman Pass (State Highway 20) and has a one-way distance of approximately five miles for skiers and snowshoers. Winter visitors are advised to carry snow chains and a shovel in their vehicle as winter storms and icy conditions can make it difficult to exit the trailhead, even after it has been plowed. Hikers, bikers and horseback riders can access the cabin in the summer and fall from the Snow Peak Trailhead via the 3-mile Snow Peak Trail. Guests are responsible for their own travel arrangements and safety, and must bring several of their own amenities.

For the hike in, the new snows had bent many young trees, and a few large ones, across the trail. It made the going tough. For the hike down, we met the trail crew coming up about half way thru the section of blocked trail. They had cleared all the smaller trees on their way up. That made our travel much easier. The cabin was so welcome and comfortable. All the gear provided in the cabin was surprising. We felt guilty over the level of comfort. I'm grateful for the wonderful stay we had. We filtered water from the horse trough rather than melting snow. No rodent activity was noticed in the cabin. No shortage of anything.

Our family stayed the night at this Cabin on our Hike of the Kettle Crest South trail #13. We weathered out an amazing thunderstorm overnight and got to watch the lightning from the comfort of our cots with a hot dinner while we played games. My Wife and I, with our four children and a dog fit quite comfortably(cozy, but comfortable). We were pleasantly surprised by how well stocked the cabin was, with firewood for the stove, propane for the cook stove, cookware and dishes, cots with mats and even a box of games to play. The privy is well taken care of and clean. We only found out about the cabin the day we started our hike and were lucky enough that it was available for that evening, but we really had no idea what to expect, what an epic blessing it was. We will definitely be back.

Great first time stay at the cabin on May 2nd 2021. My 2 sons and I made the 5 mile in just over 3 hours. I have hiked this area many times in just about every condition, but this was the most challenging. The weather was nice, but the mixture of mud, snow and ice made for some dicey sections. We chose not to bring snow shoes, which ended up being a good choice as we would have had to take them on and off many times. However, the were many post holing incidents on the way up and down.
The cabin was awesome and left clean inside from the previous visitors - we did the same. Melting snow reveled aluminum and tin cans that were used for target practice - we packed what we could find, but I'm sure there is more to be uncovered.

The cabin was very comfortable for the two of us, well supplied with pots and dishes, cots, and even games and puzzles. No sign of mice (reported by others). Snow was crusty, but we had a nice snowshoe. Windy and chilly, but the wood stove kept us plenty warm.

Cozy, well-stocked and tidy little cabin. Sleeps 4 but it would be cozy. We were a party of 2 and that was ideal. We had a comfortable stay despite a blizzard! Fun skiing nearby. Navigation there in winter requires some planning / skill - we found it the cabin pretty easily with the Gaia app and maps but another party told us they had trouble locating it, especially since the path had been thoroughly buried in the snow and was not obvious particularly as you get closer to the cabin. At least on a clear day you can see the cabin in the distance. There are intermittent blazes and ribbons marking the trail. Would recommend highly!

I love that it takes some effort to not only get here, but to stay here which is not something a lot of people are willing to do. One of my favorite close to home places to visit.

I love this cabin, unfortunately the person or persons who rented before me left the cabin without kinlin, gun shells on the floor, oil in frying pan and furniture in disarray. It takes only one person to screw this wonderful arrangement with the FS up. Whoever you are, the date you left was 11\17. Do us all a favor and don't come back again. If you can't clean up after yourself don't bother coming to Snow Peak Cabin.
