This is a total gem. The facilities are excellent, the camping sites are very adequate and the area has lots of trails to hike. Can't recommend this site enough.

Good hiking on nearby trails, mostly locally a walk around the lake and farther afield on numerous trails that provide anything from a 1/2 mile walk to a 20-mile expedition. The area also offers a lot of biking, some on paved roads with relatively little traffic, much on gravel roads with few if any cars, and even more on single-track trails. But you need to enjoy hills, unless you're staying only in the immediate campground and lake area.
Overall, we had a great respite in the woods away from the hurly burly of city life. In addition to the site and campground offering a mental getaway, the cleanliness made it easy to feel comfortable and OK during our COVID times. Moreover, when we ran into a battery snafu with our car, the volunteer campground host jumped into to help, recruiting other campers to pitch in. Our visit spanned a busy weekend with nearly all sites occupied and weekdays, when only a few campsites had occupants, and both scenarios were splendid.

A great location and site. Enjoyed a 6.5 mile loop hike, straight out of the campground. All facilities are very clean and in good order.

From Strasburg, VA, follow State Route 55 west for 18 miles to Wardensville, WV. Turn left on SR 23/10, and travel for about 6 miles. Turn right on CR 16, and travel for 6 miles. Turn left onto Forest Service Road 500, and drive about 1 mile to the Trout Pond Recreation Area entrance.

8.8 mi drive to downtown Lost City (about 17 min)

- Check in with the campground host when you arrive.
- Entrance gates are locked from 10 PM to 8 AM.

- Gasoline-powered boats are prohibited on the lake.

- Single sites are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
