Arrived at campground (after an 8 hour detour around Yellowstone National Park) only to be greeted by a closed and locked gate with a sign stating the campground was closed. No one notified us ahead of time of the closure. We had to find last-minute alternative accommodations for the night.

half of the campground was closed due to recent rains which also closed yellowstone park. several of the sites, including the one we were to stay on had significant damage. Camp Host was working by hand to restore sites and redirected us to one he had completed. He had determined to service as many campers as possible. I comment his work and attitude as one of the best camp hosts we have encountered. they also had spotless and odorless toilets. I was a great location not too far from Cody and close to Yellowstone

During the night prior to my reservation Wapiti was closed due to flooding. While Recreation.gov has all my contact information and regularly sends me updates and notices on upcoming reservations, they did not bother to warn us of this closure. I was livid upon our arrival in the late afternoon when I first learned that I could not stay there and no other option could be promised. Wapiti managers and I assume, Rec.gov had known for at least 10 hours the campground was closed. What a failure of customer service!! We are still on the road finishing a long road trip but when I return home I will be contacting rec.gov for a full refund and some explanation about what went wrong. I am very disappointed in their performance.

Campsites were well situated with space between sites, and very clean. Camp host was very helpful.

    • Cabins, lookouts, and yurts: cancelling less than 14 days before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
    • One-night reservations: a late cancellation usually forfeits the full amount paid, up to the total original reservation cost.
