About Gros Ventre Campground

Gros Ventre (pronounced ‘grow-vont’), means “big belly” in French, and the Gros Ventre Campground—surrounded by cottonwood trees and featuring stunning views of Blacktail Butte and the Teton Mountains—is truly magnificent! The campground’s location next to the Gros Ventre River offers some of the best opportunities in the park for wildlife sightings, as bison, moose, mule deer and a wide variety of birds are known to frequent the area. For avid anglers, the Gros Ventre River offers plentiful cutthroat trout, brook trout, and whitefish. While none of Gros Ventre’s campsites are on the river, all are within walking distance.The campground offers camping for tents and dry camping for RVs. Campsites include 279 individual campsites, 4 large group sites, and 39 electric-only sites, 10 of which are ADA-accessible. The campground is open from late-April to early-October.

This is our second trip to this campground and will probably not be the last. We enjoy the space of the sites and the proximity to the Tetons, T.A. Moulton Barn, Jackson Hole and the surrounding National Forest. It was very nice to have a nightly ranger program in this campground, something we missed having while visiting Yellowstone.

I could have stayed there all summer. Easy access to the river, and not far from anything else in the park, beautiful scenery, and water,,,and snake river Cutthroat Trout!

Shade is a mixed bag. We had little shade but great access to the creek. On a hot day this place can be a little rough. Choose the site carefully.

Many “tent” sites lack tent pads or otherwise groomed areas for tents. That disappointment aside, the campground staff were welcoming and informative. Restrooms cleaned frequently - improved shelving and hooks beside the sinks would be a convenience. Campground set beside the Gros Ventre River with occasional moose sightings. GRTE is spectacular.

Park crew was friendly. Campsite was clean and bathrooms were clean and stocked. I like this campground because most of the sites have nice tree cover and it’s a short walk to the river.

Very loud campsite, no views at all. Given the price (very expensive campsite compared to others around), I would expect showers beung part of the camp.

Cancellation policy

  • Reservation fees are non-refundable. For campsites, cabins, lookouts, yurts, group sites, and similar stays, we charge a reservation service fee of $8.
  • Standard cancellations usually have a $10 cancellation fee. Customers can generally cancel before the check-in date online.
  • Late cancellation rules differ by stay type.
    • Individual campsites: cancelling after 12:00am local time the day before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
    • Cabins, lookouts, and yurts: cancelling less than 14 days before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
    • One-night reservations: a late cancellation usually forfeits the full amount paid, up to the total original reservation cost.
  • Modifications are allowed before the cut-off window, but fees depend on the change. Changing to dates completely outside the original reservation dates may trigger a $10 change fee. Extending or shortening a stay that still includes original dates usually has no change fee, though refunds may depend on timing and facility rules. Switching to the same type of campsite for the same dates usually has no change fee, but price differences are charged or refunded.
  • Early departures may or may not be refunded. At certain facilities, partial refunds may be possible if staff can mark the site available for other visitors. No refund is given for a night if the early departure is requested after that day's check-out time.
  • Security deposits are separate. Security deposits may be refunded to the original payment method if the facility is left in acceptable condition, as determined by the property.
